Ferguson favour? focus forward to Killie

|

It is that time of the year again when we most of us football enthusiasts settle down on a Tuesday night, possibly with a wee cup of tea, a can or whatever your tipple, to see what another UEFA champions league night edition has in store for us.

Anti-Celt information

Note – I know we are not in the competition, for the un-educated peerers who for a split second there decided I will comment with all my last brain ‘cell’ to belittle the mighty Celts

Being one of those lucky chaps who disregarded my old free-view box that would not get channel 5, I tickled Bransons cable long one instead of Murdochs dish, I have managed to keep hold of that timeless, guy porn, entertainment regarded by my Mrs as “Oh not that bloody channel again”, yep the sports news channel in HD (I have refrained from using its appropriate moniker as we are not effing advertising for them, even though I am sure the money would go down nice but thats not my pony to ride).

The aftermath of spending a good two hours in front of the television was not nice. I was left happy that Spurs squandered their lead, “Ha, ha, ha” said my Uncle (Gunners fan), but left in utter disapointment that it looks like ex-rangers player Alex Ferguson has done his old boys a favour by giving them a point at home. I saw some of the match and the percentage I did see Man United seemed over confident and even some of them looked like they wanted to be elswhere, probably a hotel room with an evening lady.

I noticed at one point the R*ngers had 10 players in their own half defending, it looked like a bloody scrum at the time, with the ‘Mancs’ left with a couple of long range efforts all in the minimalist amount of play I did see. I then decided after a few moments to switch off  as my uncle said “Its feckin obvious, Fergie and Walty have had a secret handshake and an agreement before hand”.

Would a draw suit both parties? Yes. Do the managers have history? Yes. A draw would have suited both clubs, as  to me it is a variation of waving ‘the white flag’ to show both teams have move forwards towards fairness and equality in the game, plus it would act as a platform to show that they could leave Ibrox and enter England without wrecking a whole city.

I pondered the thought that just because you leave a percentage of the brainless, neanderthals at home doesn’t mean you will not start any trouble and I imagine that if anything did kick off, other than the match, it would be media-blacked-out and covered up to show the nicey, nicey side of both teams. Now for those of you with full football craniums it is time to shield your eyes for a paragraph as I give those who are not in the know a wee lesson: –

Football for dummies – Part 4 – Blackout and covered up,

For those of you freshly new as morning dew to the beautiful game who are thinking “Blackout and cover up? I’m sure my grandad used to do that in world war 2?”.

You are wrong a black out and a media cover up is what has been happening continuously with our foes financial information ever since god knows when. Also see rule changes to European champions league and European qualification seedings for cover ups.

After witnessing some of United versus the huns match, that I could only describe as the biggest scandal since the Bloodgate scandal in Rugby, I decided to focus on another Rugby. Rugby Park that is and the upcoming fixture against Kilmarnock.

They are a team that labels its “Worst defeat: 1 – 9 v Celtic, Scottish League Division 1, 13 August 1938″.

Good old Killie and arguably the love stops at that after our ties with them when messrs James McGrory and Tommy Burns have been discussed. Recently manager Mixu Paatelainen (I’ve often wondered if a dyslexic reads his name do they  get reminded to go to the bookies as they probably see “Mixed up? put a line on”) has taken the Killie hot seat (the reason for it being hot is that Danny Invincibile spilled his scotch bonnet chili sauce off his kebab on it.).

Not only does Mixu have Taouil, Sammon, Combe and Fowler at his beck and call but he also snapped up David Silva and Mo Sissoko. Yes thats right, no joke, when I saw the signings float across my TV screen one morning I nearly spat my Asda Shreddies at the screen in laughter thinking “Are things that bad at Killie that they have decided on signing tribute acts already?”. I think I was laughing for the rest of that day after seeing that. Today the big news is that David Silva may be out of Killies next match injured (and no he is not commuting to Manchester to play for his other team).

Killie have notched up 2 wins (Dons and St Mirren) and 2 losses (The Well and Huns) so far this season. Mixu will more than likely set up his ‘stall’ with a defensive formation and look to swamp the midfield to stop us from playing. I think that Killie do not have enough quality to stop our on form team and that we should win comfortably.

Prediction – 3 – 1 win with goals from Stokes, Murphy and wee Shaun.

I now lay it out to the congregation.

What is your view on the above or the future proceedings?

Do you think Fergie gave rangers a favour?

P.S. Get better Evander!!!

Even at this early stage in the season aul’ purple nose is in trouble in the EPL. Hence the reason for sending out his second choice outfit last night (10 changes from Everton game). The Liverpool game next weekend is more important for him than the Hun game.

No, I don’t think he went out to give the Hun a favor: he probably underestimated them, and that’s how it worked out.

Unfortunately the Turks in this group look crap, so the Hun might just squeeze 3rd spot.

All we need is another weird aligning of the planets, and the Hun could end up in Dublin next May.

    I feel sick…

      @sixtaeseven

Der Bretheren drew their opening game last year and finished bottom of their group. I fully expect the same to happen this year.
important for him than the Hun game.

I blame your breakfast croissant for your queasiness not ability – or non-ability – of a certain football team.

  • sixtaeseven says:

3-1 looks about right for us against KFC.
Clean sheet would be better, but we won’t be greedy: we’ll just take the 3pts and continue to buils a bit of momentum/confidence.

Ideally we’ll go into this Sunday game, with the possiblity of going 2pts clear at the top.
Not going to happen tho’, cos DUnt are crap this season (0-4 ICT!) but mainly cos the planets seem to be aligning in a distinctly weird manner.

    Still feeling queezy…

If anyone thinks that Sir Drinkalot and Smith concocted that draw then I put you in the box with those who purchase Papal flags.

There is lots more room at that Inn.

In someways, seeing the EPL’s arrogance in Manure playing what was described by Henry Winter as the Telegraph as their “carling cup side” failing to beat what is largely reconsigned to be the worst SPL Champions EVER was a comeuppance for those who shall not be named sports channel.

Whisper this, I reckon that Carling Cup side still would have took 3 of us as that’s what we do away from home, The Huns got a point. That’s what they do away from home.

    Simples.

Blackout and cover up is also something Vanessa Feltz does in the bedroom.

The Marnocks. Silva and Sissocko are the Milli Vanilli of tribute acts but that wee Finish bloke of Russian decent, Alexi Eremenko, is a decent player who could trouble us.

His freekick was Nakaesq at the weekend and you don’t get 46 caps for Finland usually if your names not Jari.

I have heard that Man U and the Horribles drew 0-0. Glad I don`t have Sky. 🙂
It was a decent Man U team and I am sure that the Rangers players worked hard for their draw.
After that loss to the Marnocks in February it has my full attention. No bumble bee outfit please. 🙁
    I say a win!
This week`s TV football is about to begin!!!

    • lordofthewing says:

      @iain440

This weeks Tv football is seeing Arsenal make a mockery of my prediction they would win by 2. The bookies pen mocks me.

Lime cordial on Saturday no bumble.

  • ianin440 says:

    Of course.
All the best to Evander Sno.

  • Wildrover says:

Not much for the conspiracy theory either. Ferguson always plays to win.

I’m surprised by the assertion of some in the media that he fielded their Carling Cup team. I don’t agree. Phil McNulty in particular wrote a predictably drab and uninsightful analysis, with his head halfway up Smith’s arse. That team of players is more than capable of pumping Rangers. If anything Ferguson got his tactics wrong, but playing against Smith’s 10-0-0 is not easy. I give him no credit for that, it’s a shite way to play football. Sixtaeseven is spot on, the Liverpool game at this stage is far more important.

All the best to Sno and Valencia.

  • Bobo says:

Credit to Rangers. Had a game plan, worked hard at it and were robbed of a penalty. Manure were reduced to long range punts, and this from a team with transfer values greater than the entire SPL. Lets take the green tinted specs of gents, Tommy Burns’ side played great football and won nothing. The blessed Martin played route one with a battering ram, or two, and gave Celtic their most successful era since Big Jock. Which of the two would you rather have in charge right now?

  • Sean says:

@Willdrover you said that fergie always plays to win. You do have to agree on the facts, do you not find it peculiar that ferg played a very weakened squad against the gers? If he plays to win why put the kids out on the pitch? It is outrageous to state his focus is on liverpool, when ferg always blabs on about the importance of UCL. If thats the case of your arguement well why didnt Wenger field a pish side last night, because im sure they have an important match also this weekend. Diabolical that man u fans think when they field their kids in a match and dont get a win they have the audacity to use the pick and choose syndrome that other matches are more important. I feel sorry for those fans who expected to see the man u 1st XI. Conspiracy? No because the facts are very plain to see: – weak side, waltys best mate, 0-0 draw. Need i say more!

  • Wildrover says:

    Sean,

I’m annoyed Rangers didn’t get thumped too, but I believe Ferguson put out a team that he thought could handle them. Ferdinand, Rooney, Valencia, Park, Fletcher and Brown are all established first team players. Rangers were always going to defend for 90mins, so the defensive picks are kind of moot, hence why Vidic was rested. I believe Evra picked up a knock against Everton.

If you think my comments regarding his focus on the Liverpool game are outrageous then you clearly don’t understand the significance of that tie. IMHO, Ferguson put out a team that he thought could deal with Rangers whilst taking the opportunity to rest some players for the game at the weekend.

Regarding Arsenal’s next fixture, that would be Sunderland away. It’s nowhere near the significance of the Man U-Liverpool game and I’m sure Wenger felt he could field a strong team against Braga (whom, as you know, WE should have beaten on aggregate) without exerting his players too much for the coming tie with a team that finished 10 places behind them in the league last season.

  • lordofthewing says:

    @Bobo

It’s an urban myth that Martin played route one. His football style suffered when Henke left.

  • lordofthewing says:

    @Wildrover and Sean

I have to agree with Wildrover on this one. Sir Purple Coupon saw the chance to rotate before a massive Liverpool game. He thought that he had won a watch with a fixture at home against the weakest team in the group and got it wrong.

He’s been made to look a fool.

Arsenal? They rested players at the weekend before the Braga game.

  • Sean says:

I love a good old debate!!!

  • Wildrover says:

Me too Sean ! I look forward to reading your next article on the blog.

  • Wildrover says:

Figured I couldn’t justify the $1300 flight back home. Maybe we can pencil it in for Christmas 🙂

  • Sean says:

Haha Wildrover. If you ever make it over here for xmas I will buy you a pint!
