A Canadian Called Dwayne De Rosario Is Due South.

|

The ever on the ball Celtic Rumours tweeted last week: Anyone know anything about Dwayne De Rosario of Toronto Fc? Just been sent a text from a mate saying we are looking at him for January.

The subsequent tweets from those close to the MLS give the impression of an impressive player – both on and off the park – and that at 32 is looking for a a payday. Beckhamesq or Donniecakes loan type deal to the the end of the season maybe?

Here’s the vid.

  • Kevin O'Hara says:

The guys good, would definitely help the attack.
Love to see him in the Hoops!!

  • Mike Bhoyle says:

First of all,Dwayne of the Rosary looks nothing like himself out of his Mountie uniform…..
Secondly ….the last player I saw scoring “outrageous ” goals like that was a certain…LUBO …
seriously…I don’t know how good the opposition is over there…..but some of his goals are SPECTACULAR…..
why’s he never been picked up ??

    • lordofthewing says:

My thoughts exactly. If he had been scoring goals like that since 04 why has he never went to ‘the big leagues’….

  • Sean says:

I have watched a hell of a lot of MLS in my time and he is an exceptional player who loves the life in MLS.

He has respect for the league he is in, he has earned nearly 90percent of his career accolades there thats why he has stayed in the MLS, he has got too comfortable maybe?

He would be a great player to have and would be well weathered for the Scottish climate. I could only see him being a squad player at his age though unless he adapts quickly and becomes an instant sensation.

I think Lenny may look elsewhere first before obtaining the experienced De Rosarios services. The physicality of the SPL may be a bit much for him now. The MLS has athleticism in mass amounts but even though he has talent and experience, the ruff and tumble of Scottish football will not be his cup of ‘cowfee’.

Dont expect him to be signed by us.

  • Stephebhoy says:

Rosario is one of the best players ever produced via the MLS system. It would be interesting to see how he performed in the sphell. He’s too good for Toronto, that’s for sure.

    • Qball says:

I would have to agree with you on that up until you wrote, “He’s to good for Toronto” Im sure you will strongly dis-agree but Im sure there a lot out there that can agree, and I have read people saying, SPL is a significant step down from the MLS, I see no reason for him to sign with Celtic.

  • ianin440 says:

I read that Everton are taking Steve Zakuani from the Sounders in January after having Donovan last year. The MLS has at least got the potential of having players who can stand up for themselves. I think that Celtic will sign an MLS player eventually. What`s Robbie Rodgers up to these days? 🙂

  • James says:

no no no no…look the mls is not a good league…as a tfc season ticket holder but a celtic supporter – this would be a terrible move. he is not as quick as he needs to be in the spl….really not a back to defense striker, he is more of a winger/in the hole player..not as good as maloney/hooper/stokes/…and at 32, not a wise buy for us…not even championship quality..and he is absolutely thick as two planks…

  • pete devlin says:

dare i say he is a cross btw Larrson and di canio. born in scarborough ca so should know all aboot the cellick

  • Matt says:

He’s losing pace, another winger as the TFC fan said, isn’t physical enough for the SPL, doesn’t track back, and is on the wrong side of 32, plus we’d get him for a loan?!?!?! NO!!!!!!!!

Despite my loyalties to the Crew, I wouldn’t fancy Robbie Rogers in the Hoops either. For basically the same reasons as DeRosario, except Rogers has some pace and is still young.

  • Razor says:

I dont know if it would be a good signing or not. He is a great player (has been one of the best players in the league for years) and has been wanted in Europe before, but has stuck close to home in the MLS for some reason. He does have exceptional skill, but his age, and selfishness I think will keep him from success.

In Toronto, he is known to try to dribble around 3 players, instead of making a pass to someone out in the open. That may work for him here, but in a more skilled league, he will be eaten alive by the fans, and management for pulling that shit. And with him being selfish for so many years of his career, he wouldnt be able to switch to passing it off very easy.

  • Kling Klong says:

Yes he’s on the wrong side of 30 but he has also had two of his best years the last two season with Toronto FC. The guy put away 15 goals this year on a team with some serious offensive issues.

Bottom line is the guy is a money player. Seems to find the back of the net when the team needs a big goal.

  • prizby says:

Most Toronto FC fans (James aside) know that DeRo is NOT a winger; he is just a natural drifter who likes to set himself up right behind the striker(s). Looking at the competition in the SPL, outside of maybe Rangers, I have no doubts that, even at 32, he could keep up and add value to the Celtic attack. I wouldn’t rate an Inverness or a Hamilton or a Kilmarnock ahead of most MLS sides. I think he could even add more to Celtic than what Mo Edu has for Rangers.

  • Scooter says:

Dero transferedvto TFC by Mo Johnston on the promise of big salary. The salary promise fell through and he was forced to play for less money but apparently there was a further promise made by Mo of new contract this off seaon? Mo was sacked as manager mid way through the 2010 season. Leaving Dero out of luck on his contract… I wonder if there’s a back room connection?

    • lordofthewing says:

the only backroom connection we have with Judas would be if he was tied up, blindfolded and we were bring in the gimp.

  • Hucklesworth says:

The MLS is a strong league, no worse than the SPL at the very least. There is a lot of talent to be found there.

  • Gerard says:

Reminds me of the legendary Wayne Biggins.

  • Ianin440 says:

This MLS theme is a big hit! Oh yes, there`s a Freddie Alert! Ljungberg is coming back to Europe and Celtic are just the type of club that would be interested! 🙁

  • meter Bhoy says:

DeRo would be great fit for the hoops. Would love to see this happen.

  • jamie says:

Hes a very healthy guy being a strict veggiemon “lord a mercy” so I wouldnt worry 2 much about his age. Honestly I have never understood why he doesnt just go to europe. He is basicly the best ever canadian player based on pure natural talent. He can be selfish but he is driven to win and scores brilliant goals. He could play well on most teams in europe minus the obvious ones. I can imagine what he would be like playing with a team full of good players. MLS is a physical league. look how well landy cakes did for everton last year. hes a midfeilder and had the most goals for tfc this season. European scouts should have taken him years ago. I hope he goes somewhere like your club and has a great season. higest scorer for toronto fc and he is a midfeilder. (he doesnt give the ball away to much either. youd be lucky to have the rasta sensation.

  • ReA says:

Well I have read some of these postings and some I agree with some I do not to say he is slowing down I really do not agree he is slowing down being 32 year’s old and I am a TFC supporter if it wasn’t for him we would have only scored 10 goals he scored 15 goals this year most in his career so far he and has 11 the year before so to say he is slowing down your nuts he has had a work load on him since arriving in Toronto look at our team 4 year’s no Playoffs no one to score really but DeRo . He is best using as a attacking midfielder not to be placed as a regular striker as he has proven and said many times he is not comfortable in that role when he has been put there but then again still did a better job then any striker we have had come in to Toronto. If Celtic is to bring him in for Loan It would help them to have a Veteran player that is not affraid of big game situations if you look back at the times he has won the MLS Cup with Houston and San Jose he was MVP in both and potted the game winner and also in penalty kicks then again look at the Miracle in Montreal he went on a rampage scoring 3 goals and to add on top of that he has been in the MLS Best XI 5 times. I do agree though he can be a selfish player but plays with his heart on his sleeve the problem is that he has proven over and over again he is one of the best in the MLS and has done more then the stinking DP’s they have brought in for example Mista got paid 900,000$ for 9 games which he started I think it was 2 of them …. Yet DeRo he only get’s paid league max but should def be a DP in the MLS as he proves over and over that he deserves it he is a clutch performer when called upon and also is in great condition although at 32
