Should Lennon Feel Foolish?

|

Our bullish manager said in April: “Celtic Park isn’t an intimidating place anymore. We need to make it a place to fear again so teams don’t look forward to coming here. It should be a priority to make it that way over the next season or two.”

We can’t keep dropping points at home. It’s going to cost us. It’s a concern.” he said last night after our 3rd home draw in a row, meaning that we have only won 1 home game in 5. Hardly intimidating and the words in April sound so hollow.

With two home games coming up he needs to tell his troops the meaning of intimidating and that being pleasing on the eye, which we were last night if you wipe away the grumblings of a poor result, and without cojones is not good enough.

To think we expected a team that would be Lennon’s mirror image not Mowbray v2.1.

Here’s the goal and the Man Of The Match Poll.

Lennon is pissing me off that much that i would happily replace him today with Liam Brady or John Barnes…. That’s how pissed off i am.
The job is simply too big for him.

For me the problem at the moment is that, especially at home, our tactics seem to be “CHARGE!!”

We are far too direct. There is no patience, no change of pace or tactics. If we get an early goal we keep charging forward looking for another as quickly as possible. We are usually tire in the second half. You cannot spend 90 mins attacking! We need to show a little more guile and intelligence when trying to break down defences.

Barcelona or Man Utd we ain’t, but they face similar issues with teams playing on their own 18 yard line. But they take their time and draw teams out, before picking holes in them.

I would love for us to adopt a similar approach. I believe we have some good players who are capable of this. Both Ledley and Ki have shown they can pick out a pass. Stokes also seems an intelligent footballer. Kayal is another who has shown glimpses.

We’ll never be as good as Barca, but that is where we should be aiming.
