Who Deserves McFaddens Egg On Their Face?

Evening,

Two blogs in one day but unlike that Commissionaire feeding his dinner guest with expensive chocolates I am not spoiling you. In fact I’m probably trying to salvage my creditability (sic) after a severe beating I took for posting a rumour about a player.

I fully expect my house door to be broken down at any moment by gun wielding Cyberpolis and me to be lead away, electrodes put on my nipples and forced to read thousands of why-so-serious articles via a massive Kindle while German hardcore techno is played at ear-splitting volume.

For some, I’m sure they pay for that pleasure.

Anyway, the AGM was the usual wind and pi$h. A non-existent major shareholder is no longer a surprise, our out-going chairmen slithering hallow words passes as the norm but our CEO feigning feelings for a doomed game after years of self preservation was an act worthy of a BAFTA.

Still, all of the above was surpassed by the ‘revelation‘ that we were in ‘advanced talks‘ for the Tin Can Army’s fallen darling James McFadden in a view to sign him on a ‘lucrative deal‘ a few days before the AGM.

It was as sad as it was predictable. The knawing thing is that we are deemed as intelligent as a goldfish eating it’s own $hit by those who see us as only customer numbers.

The leak and the offer to take the player on trial was laughable an almost admittance that they weren’t really trying to sign him at all. I would laugh if it wasn’t so tragic.

It’s the Spud in the Trainspotting interview syndrome, a scene that is seemed to be replayed every transfer window, where as our hero gets up to attend the interview he is warned: “Dinnae try too hard you might get the joab”.

In Celtic’s case it seems: “Dinnae try to hard you may get the player.” (Whom I may add I didn’t actually fancy).

In this occasion I think the question should be did Lennon want them to try harder to get the player? If the answer was yes, then we are in bother, if the answer was no then surely those puppet strings are cutting off the circulation now and we are still in bother.

  • I seen right through the McFadden guff right from the start. Just too handy a story on the eve of an AGM.

I’m glad we never signed him he is one of the most wasteful players I have ever watched.

I noticed the headline on STV News tonight “Celtic Snubbed”. This is the sort of embarrassment this board keep heaping on us supporters.

    This board has no credibility.

The whole story was always leading up to that headline. Our CEO seems quite happy for it to happen.

He can then bleat about lack of money.

  • Donald S says:

the trial idea was ludicrous and killed the deal. I knew it was scuppered the second Lennon uttered those words that he’d like to trial him and that he’d speak to Lawwell ‘in the next few days’ i’ve had more urgency to pay a council tax bill. The guy passed rigerous tests down south, or else Wolves and Everton wouldn’t have offered him contracts. We obviously were doing it as a pr move to make it look like we wanted to sign him.

SPOT ON, LENNON KNEW WE WOULD NEVER GET HIM AND SHOULD HAVE SAID, JUST ONCE AGAIN TRYING TO KEEP US HAPPY,,,

Your dead right. Just another BS story from PL and DD to keep us morons happy while they dodge talking about our very real problems at another AGM.

What was the most important issue we needed to discuss at the AGM ? What was the question we all needed answered? It was simply asking DD what his plans for Celtic are. How does he see the club in five years time ?

But what did we actually talk about at the AGM ? Faddy, songs, Scottish football going down the plug-hole, and how Celtic cant compete financially with teams from the top five European countries. These are not real issues for an AGM. They’re just idiotic distractions to stop people discussing the real issue: PL and DD’s mismanagement of the club.

Regarding the last issue, competing financially with Europes top five countries, I’ve got news for you Mr Lawell; Celtic has never been able to compete financially with teams from the top five European countries. However, it didn’t stop us winning the European Cup in ’67 or competing in the group stages of the CL a few years ago.

Scottish football is not our problem, England’s, and Spain’s footballing millions is not our problem. Stop using these things as an excuse to run the club into the ground.

Our problem is you and DD not managing the club properly. Your not making the best use of the money we have.

    • lordofthewing says:

Great post, you can’t argue with any of it.

      Though, I will.

For the good of the scottish game we need to look at the distribution of the meger wealth we have. We need to end this self preservation that is the MO of this board.

      • paranoidandroid says:

You could be right there. That’s what they do in the US- to preserve competition. I’d like to see it done throughout Europe though.

  • killian1888 says:

the best signing would be mark hughes to replace lennon.but then again hughes is not a yes man like lennon.its john barnes all over again.once lennon leaves celtic he will end up down the same path as barnes.

    • lordofthewing says:

Mark ‘I’m getting the Aston Villa Job‘ Hughes who when interviewed for the Celtic joab wanted more money than he was getting at Man Citee and a clause that he could leave to any EPL club?

      • killian1888 says:

well am sure he wont be asking for more money now that he is out of work.but we sacked tony mobray
after 6mths for less considering he did not get much of a chance

        • lordofthewing says:

He was out of work the first time we approached him. He wanted an SPL payment for coming to a lesser leaue.

  • Big Mike says:

It is all f’ing doom and gloom so it is! DD gtf and take the rest with you. It is not a good time to be a

  • jockybhoy says:

Shock horror part 1 – English premiership club offers more money than a Scottish Club.

Shock horror part 2 – Professional footballer signs with club offering more money than another.

Damned if they do, damned if they don’t. Celtic get criticised for not talking up transfer prospects – which worked sooooo well over in Mordor – but if there is an indication (was it the club releasing info or just people responding to journalists questions?) we are trying for someone and we don’t land it, it’s pitchforks and torches and marching on the Kerrydale Suite…

The fact that “Faddy” played at Everton for 5 odd years and had his best days there was also a bit of a giveaway. They sold him for £5m and are getting hiom back for nowt… Our only chance was if they didn’t want to risk a forward with a gammy knee…

ParanoidAndroid – the 67 team is still held up as an almost unique example of a “local” team winning the biggest prize. But that was 45 years ago. Pretty much 2 generations. A LOT has changed in sports since then.

The reality is that as money has become more important in professional sports Scotland has fallen further and further behind. I’m not just talking football – look at the decline in Scottish rugby since it went professional. OK we have some great individuals like Hoy & Andy Murray, but what team sports does Scotland comopete effectively in? I think it’s only elephant polo…
