Not So Sharp: Celebrity Sevco Fan Tweets From The Gutter

You know and I know that there is a sub-sect of the Sevco support that crawled out of a stinking, reeking, drain.

Today, Lynsey Sharp, the Scottish runner and Commonwealth silver medallist, has become one of them after a sick tweet last night, targeting Jock Stein.

It says a lot for the Ibrox operation that it can’t associate itself with people showing even the remotest hint of class.

Even those in the public eye aren’t immune to getting swept away in the scummy tide of filth and diseased thinking that surrounds that club like a plague cloud.

Their more humane supporters must be mortified.

Sharp is very high profile.

She is one of the poster children for the shareholders organisation The Rangers Trust.

But like many of its members (and you can judge this for yourself by simply checking out their barmy, occasionally rabid, press releases) she appears to be a calibre one halfwit … and that’s me being generous and restrained.

The fact is, I don’t want to be restrained.

I want to scream my own stream of obscenities at the variety of people who think dragging abused children into a debate about football makes them look something other than demented.

Sharp will regret that tweet a thousand times between now and the end of her career.

At a time when Scottish sportsmen and women are being lauded and celebrated across this great land she has, in a single moment, made herself persona non grata with a huge section of the population.

In short, she’s now an un-person and as long as she’s selected for competitions a lot of us won’t go to them.

A lot of us won’t watch them.

Most tragically, as long as she’s part of the team, a lot of folk won’t wish Scotland well in them.

I cannot imagine swallowing this, to cheer her on to victory, now or ever.

Sharp is supposed to represent her country.

All of it.

Not just certain parts of Ayrshire and Larkhall.

If the national selectors are okay with her deciding that some of us can get stuffed then I guess they’ll bear some of the responsibility themselves when consequences come.

I’m absolutely fed up with narrow bigotry being tolerated in Scotland.

By this action she’s no better than the other gutter dregs, those who march past chapels at this time of year reminding themselves that whilst they live in dilapidated schemes with paint peeling off the walls that they are still the masters of all they survey.

When all you survey of a Saturday night is a sink full of sick it’s easy to kid yourself on like that.

She claims this is a mistake.

You’re damned tooting it’s a mistake.

An even bigger mistake is to kid on she didn’t know what the phrase meant.

To say she thought it referred to Jock Wallace (and I’m not writing it and I’ll never write it), well … it insults our intelligence on top of smearing a man who’s not here to defend his reputation.

But, see, increasingly that’s all these people have got.

In my latest piece for On Fields of Green, I’ve talked about how they are clinging on to the name, the name of Rangers, as the last remnant of what they once knew.

I’ve asked where the real money is coming from to turn their shattered club into what they think it should be.

More and more, they know it’s not going to happen.

And they are desperate.

And they are angry.

Sometimes that anger spills over and wears a public face.

That’s when the anti-Catholic, anti-Irish and child abuse slurs start, when they are at their lowest ebb.

We are supposed to pity them, I think.

I’ll tell you here and now, I don’t.

I don’t feel the least bit sorry for their tortured mental state.

Indeed, when something like this happens you wish on them more misery than before.

You want to see them weep on your TV screens.

You want to listen to their pleading, “oh won’t someone help us?” tone on the radio.

You want to check out their forums and sup on their pain as if you were tasting a fine white wine.

Yeah, today I’ve run out of the milk of human kindness.

Today I just want to hear them squeal.

Today Lynsey Sharp joined the ranks of the unwashed, those who can’t raise themselves above the gutters full of vomit, urine and fag ends where so much of Sevco appears mired forever.

The irony of this, of course, is that she was supposed to be a standard bearer for their support at a time when they have to put on a bright, shiny, public face for investors.

She seemed to be a perfect one, a great example for their younger fans to aspire to.

A good catch for a club that needed good news.

They thought the same about Chris Graham too, of course.

And that’s the company she belongs to now.

She is a public disgrace, lauded now only by the warped and the twisted.

They will love her more than ever.

But now she reminds the rest of the world why we hate so much of what they are about.

She must make her family and her supporters very proud.

Scotland, as a whole … not so much anymore.

I hope she never competes for Scotland again. I unfollowed her on Twitter last year because of the bigoted abuse on her profile from other ‘fans’ from parts of Glasgow and certain areas in Northern Ireland – she did NOTHING to stop it from happening. If you had asked me to predict a Scottish athlete that would make a joke about child abuse I would have said Lynsey Sharp. She is a BIGOT.

      Hi there,
In Glasgow, like a lot of cities across the world, there is football rivalry and sometimes jovial banter can go too far and turn nasty. Such a case arose in recent times when Glasgow Rangers were liquidated but not before they spread unfounded and vicious rumours about a former manager of Glasgow Celtic namely Jock Stein, these accusations involve Mr Stein’s knowledge, or lack of, a former employee of Celtic during the sixties being involved in such a hienous crime and a nasty element of these so called football fans made up stories about Mr Stein;s knowledge of these crimes and has since passed away in 1985 and is therefore unable to defend himself.

I bring this story to you for two reasons, firstly I want you to know that it disgusts the normal people of Scotland but these Rangers’ supporters have long since had a habit of racism, sectarianism, rioting and causing havoc across Europe when they were involved in European football ties, but mostly I want to draw your attention to a Nike sponsored Scottish sportswoman, namely Lindsay Sharp, who unbelievably took to twitter to underhandedly promote this scurrilous lie which no doubt will find favour with her fellow Rangers supporters but it has and will turn an awful lot of people both Celtic fans and Scottish sports fans to question Nike’s policy on their clients’ social media activities, I myself buy a lot of Nike products for casual wear, but from here that will now stop.

      Regards

  • Sage says:

    What she said deserves condemnation.

I do not agree, however, that one stupid pronouncement must mean the end of her career.
That kind of rabid reaction is no better than hers.
In fact squealing to the State and calling for their intervention helped create the OBAF Act.

She uses the sexual abuse of children as a platform for her narrow minded views.
You use her narrow minded views as a platform to attack people who had nothing to do with her tweet. Thus betraying you own victim driven agenda.

She has not broken the law. She has exercised her right to free speech. No-one is obliged to seek out her comment, although the Celtic blogosphere is doing everything it can to amplify it around the world.
    Poor wee victims.

    • James Forrest says:

      Who’s squealing to the state?

As to ending her career … that’s her sponsor’s call.

I will boycott her, and them, till the end of time.

      This crap has to stop.

      • Sage says:

The cry to have her de-selected is a cry to a State sponsored body.

Orchestrating an e-mail campaign to write to her sponsors is real big man stuff. Innit?

Imagine if those of yesteryear, real victims of actual religious bigotry, had wilted and wept so easily.

A little bit of name calling. What happened to sticks and stones? The standard advice on dealing with name callers “ignore them and they’ll go away”?

Of course Mr Forrest, you without sin, cast the first stone. You’re part of an on-line mob.

        • James Forrest says:

The state doesn’t sponsor this kind of crap the last time I looked.

So yeah, maybe it is a cry to a state body. Cause tax payers shouldn’t have to fund this bile.

A bit like Glasgow’s rate payers subsiding OrangeFest.

You “turn the other cheek” if you want. I for one am well fucking sick of living in a country that tolerates this shite.

As to an online hate mob … in case it escaped your single digit IQ, she tweeted this.

It was a gutterball to her own side’s online scum.

My own response was measured and calm by comparison.

          • Therese Marie Storrie says:

Well said James I cant believe that someone is actually defending her Ok she has freedom of speech BUT SO DO WE !!!!!! and I for one will be bringing this to the notice of Nike and I hope she gets dropped from a massive height I do not want my grandchildren to be having this bigoted idiot as a role model

        • Steven clsrke says:

All this from the fans who said being called current buns ( not the actual phrase used )was sectarian.. and wrote to the media and everywhere cod they felt hard done too. Also your fans sing about child abuse all the time. The sing about millions of people dying. So get a grip.

        • jackh1888 says:

          Dear Sage,
Your attempts to cast those displaying righteous anger at a public figure’s vile behaviour would be laughable were it not so sad.
It is sad because it reflects a mindset where hate-filled jibes are passed off as ‘banter’. Thus an outrageous and unfounded attack on one of our nation’s true sporting greats gets passed off as ‘A little bit of name calling’.
Sad too, that you, your like minded brethren, and your idiotic current heroine Sharp, (a misnomer if there ever was one), cannot see the pain and grief you must cause to Mr Stein’s family.
The sadness is only compounded by your sleekit attempt to paint Mr Forrest as some permanently outraged cry baby.
If any of us weep we do so out of frustration and anger that many of our fellow Scots still hanker after some imagined 17th century ‘golden age’ when inferiors seemed to know their place. Your comment about ‘real religious bigotry’ is as telling as it is ironic given the victim of Ms Sharp’s tweet was famously a non-catholic.

As an aside, I assume your chosen pseudonym refers to the bitter herb and not a state of heightened intelligence?

    • Cosmic Truth says:

So Sage, she has simply exercised her right to free speech? You’re probably aware of the big cover up at Rangers in the early 70’s, over The Ibrox Disaster? If not, you can read about it in this article. http://www.thecelticwiki.com/page/Rangers+-+Falling+Masonry

If a high profile Celtic supporter had tweeted David Hope Knew, Davie White Knew, or Sheriff James Irvine Smith Knew etc, I highly doubt people like yourself, Chris Graham, and any other advocate of the right to freedom of speech would have got behind them, the way you have done with Ms Sharp.

You don’t hear Celtic supporters sing about the big Rangers cover up. You don’t hear them joke about the big Rangers cover up. You don’t see them text about the big Rangers cover up. You don’t see them post on football forums about the big Rangers cover up The supporters of TRIFC do this on a daily basis.

Supporters of TRIFC also make up “hilarious” names for Celtic Park, linked to the James Torbett affair. Names like Torbett Towers, and The Big Jock Knew Camp etc roll easily off their tongues, as they snigger about what happened at Celtic Boys Club in the 70’s. It’s all a joke to them, banter, as the revel in child abuse, to have a dig at the Celtic support. Once again, I seriously doubt they would take the same light hearted view if Celtic supporters started calling Ibrox “witty” names like The Disaster Dome, or Croak Park etc.

Despite Celtic supporters knowing about this for years know, they don’t revel in the tragic events that day, and subsequent cover up. If they had done any of these things, they wouldn’t have broken the law. They would have exercised their right to free speech.

Do you think maybe Celtic supporters should start a campaign, to highlight the big cover up at Ibrox, the way Rangers, and TRIFC, fans have done for well over ten years now? If they did, I’m sure people like yourself, Chris Graham, and any other advocate of free speech would get right behind them, and fully support their right to do so, eh?

Ms Sharp revelled in the abuse of teenagers, to score points with other scumbags who hold similar views to herself. Her subsequent excuse, which she seems to have dropped like a hot potato now, that she thought it was about Jock Wallace, wasn’t even good enough to qualify as a lie, it was an insult to everyone’s intelligence. She has shown herself up to be another horrible, small minded, bigot. She can forget ever having any Celtic supporter support her from now on.

  • john says:

This young woman has obviously been indoctrinated in her attitude towards Celtic and one of our greats .She is a disgrace and should appologise to the family of Mr Stein personally and make a statement retireing from representing my country at international level. In the midst of the Ibrox disaster Jock was their helping the dead and dying, when that terrible tragic event was recently commemerated the celtic support showed in a sombre solemn fashion their class by their impeccable behaviour during the silences.I say no more.

    • David says:

Is this the same “classy” set of supporters that couldn’t handle Rangers winning a title on their own patch so took to the field to attack Mr Dallas, threw themselves off the top tier and pounded rangers players and officials with coins? Classy indeed…

      • Cosmic Truth says:

David, come back to us when Celtic supporters hive rioted across England, and Europe.

Until that happens, it’s best not to try and take the moral high ground on supporters behaviour. You’ll only make yourself look stupid.

  • merlot69 says:

I am a big athletics fan as well a Celtic Supporter. I cheer on Scots athletes in every sport and love to see them doing well. Last year I was screaming at the telly when Lynsey Sharp was sprinting down the home straight winning two silver medals.

Today I feel totally disgusted even at the mention of her name. I do not care that she supports the team that died and has transferred her loyalty to the new club. Indeed half of my family still support that mob and I hold no grudge against them.

However, for Miss Sharp to tweet what she did and then try to use the excuse that she did is deplorable. Does she really think that the general public is so simple that they will believe anything that comes out of her mouth from now on.

The world athletics championships are coming up later in Beijing, I can only hope that Miss Sharp fails miserably, fails a drug test and is banned from competing for life. I know I shall be supporting every other athlete competing in the 800m before I support Miss sharp.

    • Sage says:

What have her race, skin colour or ethnicity to do with the discussion?

      • James Forrest says:

Who brought them INTO the discussion?

What’s your agenda here? Are you trolling?

        Are you DEFENDING her comments?

If you’ve got SOMETHING TO SAY … come on out and say it.

        • Sage says:

“White trash” by Ricky is bringing all that into the discussion.

          The old “troll” deflection.
Deal with the content of what I post.

          • James Forrest says:

White trash is a perfectly legitimate comment in the context of this.

It has connotations of rednecks living in trailers, with the Confederate Flag in the window.

            Racist. Backward. Idiotic.

Words I have no problem associated with someone who plays to a gallery of goons.

        • Martin Henderson says:

He has said it, and you have abused him for doing so.

  • tom says:

Her excuse will be accepted in Scotland and Timmy will again be blamed as the permanently offended.
The smsm will snigger at their desks and give tacit approval.
    Scotlands shame.

    • Sage says:

Considering how some Celtic supporters have amplified and relayed her comment around the world, lest their friends miss out on an opportunity to be offended, then “permanently offended” is appropriate.

Wouldn’t it be better to take on her comment and ask her to justify it?
For instance, demand that she provide proof of its veracity?

      • James Forrest says:

        Lol yeah you’re trolling.

For your information Terry Fuckwit, if the Big Man were alive the onus would be on HER and the utter gutter rats to prove the veracity of THEIR claims.

To libel a dead man is easy cause no-one’s around to sue.

        It’s rank cowardice.

Sadly, for her, and the other no-marks, there are plenty of us who WILL hold them to account for such disgusting comments.

        • Sage says:

I’m sure Tom and Ricky are very grateful to have you speak for them. With your journalistic elegance and deep knowledge of the law.

Would you like a financial contribution for every use of the eff word?

Legal lesson 1 (free of charge). It’s called defamation in Scots Law.

I see that the “Email * (will not be displayed)” is in fact a lie on this blog.
Privacy guaranteed only to those with whom the blog agrees.
“Name them and shame them”. Now which famous Rangers’ manager demanded that?
As I said, Mr Forrest, you’re part of a mob.

          • James Forrest says:

            Since we’re talking libel …

You’ve just accussed me of publishing your email address.

That’s a breach of online privacy law.

You’ve also accused me of lying.

You want to keep going? Because I’m on the record as saying I’ll sue ANYONE making defamatory remarks.

  • Robert says:

  • TonyB says:

You can see why she’s their celebrity mascot.

A loser who thinks the subject of child abuse is funny and worse uses it to defame the memory of a Scottish sporting hero and winner ( something she can only dream about ).

If she has the right to exercise her freedom of speech then so do the rest of us who are disgusted by her all too typical vile sevconian trash talk.

    This is who they are.

  • John says:

To Sage.Think its time you changed your handle , there is no wisdom in your words . You are just another branch of that cancerous weed that she belongs to.

  • Al says:

I want us out of Scottish football asap. It is infested from the terraces at Ibrox, to the media editorial rooms to the stinking referees and the corridors of officialdom with a collection of fiends ranging from the downright bigoted to the utterly incompetent. They dont deserve an institution like ours plying our trade in their bias set up,

Now there are plenty of decent honest people in all those places but they are scared to make their voices heard. Bias corrupt and crap.

Id join the Conference league tomorrow if we could.

    • Chico says:

Raymond please dont retaliate and sink to their level. You mentioned kincora,to do this, you are in fact glorifying child abuse in the same way that vile cretin of an athlete has done with her tweet! • Pleasesircanihavesomemore says:

There’s no excuse for this sad individuals tweet she was playing to the masses of her own type she now appears to be some sort of idol for the bigots from Ibrox. She has shamed a man who died helping his country qualify for a major sporting event. She has also taken part in sporting events for her country let’s hope she never does again!!! NO EXCUSES YOU KNOW WHAT YOU DONE BIGOT.

  • Ben says:

This little pathetic bigot should be hauled into court by the great mans family lawyers, and made to beg not to be slung in jail, unless she makes a full public apology. The lottery funding she claims should be stopped immediately, and the Scottish Athletics Board should take severe action against this stupid sectarian idiot. Why aren’t the Scottish Media attacking this bigot.

  • Paul Morgan says:

I have been following this story all day. I am disgusted that both ITV and the BBC local news have failed to cover this story. She should be finished as an athlete especially representing this country. We should expect our SNP leader to come out and condemn her actions and finally seeing as it is football related she should charged under the offensive football act. Unbelievable and disgusting behaviour.

  • anthony says:

she knew what she said . she should be banned

  • Franco Carroll says:

Love it when Huns appear spouting about freedom of speech etc….except when it’s the truth about them & Sevco…then we’re obsessed paranoid bigots….Lyndsay Sharp proved her IQ with her sick tweet played to the knuckle dragging hordes…????????????????????????????

Its no use writing to nike about this tart and them to get shot of her fir sponsotship deals nike employ drug cheats as sponsors so a racist is no problem for them.
