Mackay Failed To See What Was Obvious Before Today. Celtic Must Be Smarter.

Malky Mackay has talked about being “shocked” that James Sands wasn’t sent off against his team today, shortly before his side conceded the opening goal in a 4-0 defeat in which his side did not register a single shot on goal.

That, obviously, is part of why he’s making a song and dance out of this, because if he’d been paying attention to the drum-beat in the media this whole week the idea that his team would get nothing from the officials at all wouldn’t have surprised him in the least.

Mackay’s side were going to have to show up and make a game of it to get anything other than a hiding. To cry the blues over Sands not walking is legitimate, but it’s also bullshit.

I wrote about it at half-time when they were already 2-0 down today. From almost the first minute they sat back with every man behind the ball. It got what it deserved.

I have no sympathy for teams who do this against us and get what’s coming to them. I have even less for teams who do it at Ibrox (or away against this lot) and get a pasting.

Mackay can squeal all he wants. His own set-up today was utterly inept and it is convenient that he has something to blame the referee for after such a shocking performance.

Mackay says the game hinged on that decision. Such garbage. It was 0-0 at the time, so the only thing that changed is he was able to make Don Robertson a scapegoat for his own lack of ideas. That doesn’t change that the decision is plainly scandalous.

But that was telegraphed all week long.

It was a certainty that there would be a big call to make like this today and that it would go the way of the Ibrox club.

Mackay should have gotten his comments in before the game kicked off, and warned that referees would be getting scrutinised for the decisions they gave in light of the last week …

It’s a mistake we can’t afford to make. Ange doesn’t like to do this, but this is a week where he really should be getting it out there that the officials are being watched just as closely as the managers, because they are more than capable of throwing us off our game, especially if Ibrox’s players think they have a license to maim our footballers.

We will seek no alibis for failure, of course, and I don’t expect we’ll need them … but I don’t think we should be leaving any hostages to fortune either. Ange has to let them know that we’re watching everything, and that Celtic will not hesitate to cause a stink if we think that one is justified. It has worked for Ibrox this week.

Make it work for us, Ange.

Lol our club Celtic will cause a stink, are you having a laugh.
Our club could drop a packet of stink bombs at the SFA or anywhere else for that matter and still wouldn’t cause a stink.
The last time a stink was caused was when wee Fergus the man with bunnet done so don’t make me laugh our club causing a stink, our club are BOTTLE CRASHERS hence how the sevco klub do what they want and out club DANCE to their tune.
I will leave you with the famous 5 Way Agreement.

Spot on. P.S. you cannot rise above refereeing decisions. What’s done is done except when it’s them getting red card’s overturned

    • Peterbrady says:

And no doubt tomorrow the fix is in to deny us one way or another utd will get a dodgy or we wil be prevented from the 3 points FACT corruption cheating lies what’s the fucking point

    • Jim Duffy says:

You’re right scud our club has got it’d dirty fingers in the pie ,that’s why our club and every other club let the Huns off,I watched the Hibs Sevco game and watched the managers interview,Hibs boss stood with all the sponsors on the board behind him ,,GVB stood behind a sponsors board and cinch was nowhere to be seen , Sevco scum rule the SPFL and our club let it happen,I don’t know who the biggest cunts are us or Sevco

Two reds last week and wall to wall media outrage and backing Lundstrum to the hilt , anybody who thinks they’d get another one today is deluded , Collum got a championship match for his cheek , would you be surprised if they didn’t get another red card this season ?

  • Steven Welsh says:

Just seen the Sands incidents and it’s beyond farce that he wasn’t sent off. The 1st was plainly a yellow ( correctly given) and the 2nd was plainly a red( not given but at the very least should have been a yellow). How any ref can simply shake his head and turn away from that incident is astonishing, but not surprising. The fact his manager subbed him at half time says it all really. There’s every likelihood a 10 man home team would still have won today but the fact is we will never know.

  • Peterbrady says:

I think it’s time to come out of retirement and break the GFA no fucking de chasalan just pick the correct collateral damage it is coming

  • Nick66 says:

VAR is coming. OOOOOOOH FECK. Reason for late introduction of VAR is plain and simple, let all decisions go in Sevco’s favour, give or take a couple, then they have gained several points, VAR comes in and then decisions are balanced out, but too late to turn the tables. Sevco are then still the second best and nobody cares to object.

  • Roonsa says:

Look let’s face factoids. There was absolutely 0% chance of Ross Cunty coming away from Ibrox with anything other than a collective sore arse. I wouldn’t get too worked up about it. The same applies when they come to CP. Malkay Mackay is a second rate manager ot a second rate shower of shit footall team.

  • Johnny Green says:

Once Celtic beat Dundee United later today we can forget about that refereeing decision at Ibrox yesterday. We will be back in front and extending our very long unbeaten run with hardly a look back. We are relentless and they are irrelevant. That will be amply proven next week when we extend our lead. What we do matters, not what they do

    We shall not be moved.

  • Johnny Green says:

Starfelt back in the team. I’m not happy about that with the big games looming. I don’t trust him in our defence. he’s too panicky.

    • Tom Foolery says:

Aye, i’m a bit confused about that one. I don’t trust him fully and he is waaayyyy more negative than Jentz when it comes to moving the ball forward. But what Ange thinks is all that counts…and i trust he’s made the best decision for the team. Surprised that GG has been left out the squad, is he injured?

  • Tom Foolery says:

So if we don’t play well next week against the deadites and the ref shows them some massive favours we can’t complain? Mackay had every right to speak out regardless of how he set his team out to play.

  • SSMPM says:

Agree Tom, Mackay has every right to speak out and his team have every right to fairness in sport no matter what opinions are spewed out about their set up or chances of getting a result.
So there’s a few changes today but if we believe we have the 1st team squad to win the league, home cups and put in decent performances in the CL, then there will have to be changes at times. Players need games to be ready for the season ahead

  • Johnny Green says:

4-0 at half time. This week, next week and every week, we never stop!
