Everyone in the Scottish football press corps recognises that Ange Postecoglou is a smart man.

Why is it then that the media insist on treating our manager as if he is a fool?

Today at full time a BBC interviewer made an effort to get him to state that the league had been won this afternoon.

Of course, Ange is never going to say any such thing.

It was done in a roundabout way, but this actually made it worse.

The boss was not in the least bit impressed by it, spotting immediately what he was up to. “You’ve gone a really roundabout way of trying to get me to say, but no I’m not interested in that or thinking about that. For us what’s worked really well and been really important is that we don’t look too far ahead and it’s not just about a week at a time, it’s a day at a time.”

That’s “what’s worked really well.”

The whole philosophy of not looking too far ahead. Not resting on our laurels because we have a significant lead. The media would love to distract us with their nonsense, but Ange keeps everyone focussed.

The BBC know all this, so what they were doing trying to get him to say something out of character was not just ridiculous but a colossal waste of their time. As if Ange was suddenly going to declare the race over?

No, but he might have said something that allowed them to twist his words and he realised that was a real possibility as well.

Frankly, it’s not something they’d be shy about and not something they’ve baulked from doing to him in the past.

He has dealt with them long enough to know it.

  • Johnny Green says:

Ange is too cute for them and they should know that by now. It’s a wonder he doesn’t get angry at them sometimes, he shows great restraint when dealing with idiots.

  • Peter cassidy says:

We are present in a good position but there is plenty of points to win and lose so one game at a time again well done Celtic.

  • harold shand says:

Got them all on strings , they’re all hoping for us to lose and start putting the boot in

Like Hugh Keevins on Friday’s SSB getting all giddy at the thought of us dropping points in Perth

  • Scud Missile says:

It is an absolute pleasure watching and listening to Big Ange,he totally takes the piss out of them journalists and they are daft the can’t see it,long may it continue Ange.

  • JimBhoy says:

18 wins to the treble is all Ange will be thinking about, one at a time.

He will want to add to the squad also to cope with CL football, he is not a guy who likes losing and will want to challenge on that front and progress from the last campaign.

He has delivered a creative, exciting football brand and he will want to add quality to make that system even better. Exciting times ahead.

At the other end of town, an old team with many first team players moving on, retiring or walking for free and lack of resale value in the majority of their playing staff. Limited funds to replace players for next season. Don’t look too good for that club.
