There are stories which get into the media somehow which are almost unfathomable. There are others though where you can clearly see what they are about and where they have come from, and the story out of Yorkshire today is a case in point.

Reports that both ourselves and the Ibrox NewCo are interested in Leeds United striker Joe Gelhardt are so obviously inspired by his agent or by people close to him or the English club that there’s no real point in anyone taking the story seriously.

Joe Gelhardt is not remotely close to being the kind of player we should be looking at, far less the sort of football player Brendan Rodgers would be interesting in pursuing.

Another in the long line of strikers who don’t score he goals, he’s also too young to have the kind of experience the manager values and he lacks the physical characteristics Rodgers has said over and over again are what he requires. Pace and power.

Joe Gelhardt is 5’9. That, on its own, should confirm this as a story without the slightest merit. There is no way whatsoever that we are in for this guy; if we are I have to question not just the skillset but the sanity of those making the decisions at Celtic Park.

Attempts to link him to both Glasgow clubs are transparent fiction. I doubt they would be any more interested in this guy than we would; they have enough strikers who can’t score goals at Ibrox. It’s an attempt by desperate people to find a move for somebody who isn’t attracting a lot of interest from anywhere.

The reports all say that he has “struggled to get game time.” Yeah, cause he’s just not very good, because he doesn’t put the ball in the net enough.

This would be a waste of time and money. It is simply not worth pursuing even as a cheap backup. There are better options out there. Almost everybody.

A bit harsh on the lad James lol, but I do get were your coming from. We need someone who is going to be scoring, a target man really. We have 2 players in Scotland in Shankland in Miovski, who will score right away. I’d be amazed if Brendan wasn’t sounding them out. I look forward to seeing how this window pans out. HH

If it’s in The Scottish Football Media it’s 99% likely to be lies…

They’ll get lots of sales from Sevco fans for it for certain as that’s Sevco fans’ drug – Feel good lies…

Celtic fans should know better – But some don’t unfortunately –

Quite a few on other sites happily promote and even put bloody links up to The Scottish Football Written Media !

A lot of the hun worshipping papers are suggesting the Celts don’t want Shankland due to this Blue allegiances, something I don’t think is new to the Celtic fans. A lot of great Celts had an initial fondness for the currants.

Hearts are dying to punt him, hoping the rangers come in for him but they couldn’t afford to pay for him especially if Championship interest as suggested. Shankland could land a big pay day in the championship far more than he’d get up here.

Miovski would be a sound investment for me. A lot of potential still in the lad. Young guy and proven scorer probably worth a 3-4mill punt. Could sweeten that with a loan player going to Aberdeen also.
