Are Celtic Doing A Rebuild Of The Scouting Team To Rodgers Blueprint Now?

Yesterday there was an interesting little bit of information which made its way into the pubic domain concerning stuff that is happening in the background. The club has put out a job ad for an “analyst.” I suspect that this is in relation to the recruitment team.

And this begs an interesting question; are we done with this “head of recruitment” stuff now? Ange Postecoglou was a tremendous success without one of those above his head.

Whatever it was that he did, he didn’t need that particular role filled with someone to second guess his work. You wonder if perhaps Rodgers isn’t insisting on a similar setup.

We need an analyst because we undoubtedly lost some good people when Mark Lawwell left. One high profile member of his team departed with him, and that was probably the least of it. So, we do have to start rebuilding that area of the club … is the boss running that rebuild? Is he stamping his mark on it? Is it, in fact, being built to meet his blueprint?

That would be interesting to say the least.

That could be what we’ve needed. The system certainly should have been made to serve his needs last summer. If it had been we might have this league title just about sewn up by now, instead of having to fight for it. Massive mistakes have been made here, by a lot of people at Celtic Park and we’re not done with that issue, not by a long way.

But at some point, you have to give people time and space to start fixing what they’ve broken, and I know that this is what they rely on.

If we lose this title hell will deserve to be paid. But at the end of it all, regardless, this club needs to start preparing for what comes next.

If Ibrox has that Champions League jackpot we’re already facing an emboldened and stronger version of them next season … and we had better be ready to ante up.

That job is not going to wait until we know how this season ends. It can’t. So it makes perfect sense that it’s already underway and Rodgers has confirmed that he been talking about his own plans for signings and the rebuild he knows has to come.

Mark Lawwell’s departure strongly suggests that he has won the internal debates over what the strategy should be. With Desmond having his back, he might now be exactly where he should be; the most important person at Celtic Park.

If he’s leading the changes, if he’s in charge of the process, if the football people are finally back in charge of the football department we are definitely on the way to better days ahead.

Fair enough theory. Tho imo, as long as the other lawwell is still in any position up there, ah can’t see BR gettin his way for long. Lawwells massive self importance, is far too big for him NOT tae interfere. Ah’ll believe they’re serious about radical change, when he’s completely out the door, followed by the other hangers on in that board/directors room.

Until Peter Lawwell is gone from having any part of the operation at Celtic Park there will always be doubt and mistrust. I sincerely hope that BR has been given autonomy to build his blueprint. Improvement in Europe should be our main focus over the next 2-3 seasons, building a team that can deal domestically and abroad.

  • Bob (original) says:

IF that is correct, and BR is making significant changes,

THEN that is confirmation that the club has wasted a year?

It suggests that this summer the club will be operating as it should have

done last summer, with respect to players and recruitment?

It would be an admission that the Board had made huge cock-up

    with the ML set-up.

In a normal organisation – and especially in a plc – someone

would be expected to fall on their sword for that major misjudgement.

[And a misjudgement which could ALSO cost the club

tens of millions next season in potentially lost CL revenues?]

Either PL or MN must go, imo.

Ideally, both should take a long walk off a short plank…

I continually wondered, like so many in our fanbase, when this supposed strong bond between DD & BR was going to clearly manifest itself.

It should have been so clear when he was brought back, but it wasn’t. Instead we’ve huffed, puffed and struggled through a turgid season, whilst our manager seemingly has one hand tied behind his back, and kept there by the Lawwell influence.

The shackles started to loosen ever so slowly, with the resignation of ML, as we still wait for his father and a few others to follow.

We await the verdict from todays disciplinary, and to see whether DD’s big hitting legal team, can firstly win this case, and then what should be, an ongoing series of battles, to reform Fraudulent House and many of its inhabitants.

To hear that there are moves afoot, for new recruitment within the scouting department are both welcomed and long overdue. As there are huge swathes of talent that we’ve missed out on.

As you’ve mentioned, this should all have been in place for BR’s arrival. If it had been, then the title would have already been secured.

I won’t countenance the thought of this title heading over to Ibrokes.

Rather, a lot of exceptionally hard work has to be done, off the park, to get our club, where it should already be.

Before that, and most importantly, the hard work now has to be shown by our team, to secure this title.

Think you will find this is a Performance Analyst (similar to the course I took with Barcelona during COVID) .. where the actual game analysis is being worked pre match – analysing the opponents strengths and weaknesses .. set piece allignment and how to gain the advantage. during the match – noticing any slight adjustments that need to be taken and post match reviewing what went right/wrong and helping the coaching team to set up drills for the following week. The “Jobsinfootball” website will give the full details … Sevco are looking for a gardener it appears .. thought Fat Sally McMoist was their gardener or has his leave finished now ??

One film buff to another. I’ve watched one particular move quite alot and its so striking the similarities in which the corporates operated in an atempt to control the narrative and make themselves out to be the geniuses behind every decision.

The movie in question is Ford v Ferari ( or Lemans 66 in other parts of the world)

The actions of the celtic board over the years is an exact blueprint of what the executives at Ford did to Carl Shelby whan he was trying to win Lemans for Ford.
The suits undermined Shelby at every turn causing Ford to loose the race at the first attempt, and its clear to all if Shelby had be left to his own planns he would have indeed won.

Even at their second attempt with Shelby give cart blanche
They still interfered as much as possible and almost cost the race.

It was only Shelbys defiance of the execs that delivered the win.
Seems just what Rodgers has been putting up with since his arrival. If fiction mirrors reality, hopefully Brendan has the freedom to deliver the win(league title) despite the corporate egotism and interference.

  • Frank Connelly says:

if true Brendan’s calling the shots I hope rather than sticking job adverts in the papers he actually knows who he needs without an interview process. We keep asking for the best we can afford and hopefully that’s all being discussed, and agreed so we don’t end up with another Howe situation

  • Jim says:

There has to be changes within the board , lawwell and the feeble yes men who have overseen this disaster of a season especially with the quality of signings have to accept responsibility.

Fans and yourself James have been warning them that this was a disaster in the making and the board , controlled by lawwell ignored concerns and sat on their hands.

BR called them out continually, telling them we needed 3-4 quality signings but was overruled with projects signed in both windows.

Hopefully there is a change happening with the manager having more direct input, but whatever happens Lawwell has to leave, his return has been a miscalculated disaster.

The likes of O , Dea , McManus , although they know what it takes to play for Celtic, need to be replaced, we need to sort out why we can’t defend or score from the vast number of corners awarded to us
