Celtic Fans Must Be Laughing At The Ibrox Captain’s Latest Big Talk On The Title.

They never learn, do they? The Ibrox players never learn. Always, no matter the situation, they have to mouth off. Their disrespect for other clubs is unreal. This morning it’s Captain Marvel from over there, Tavernier (Penalty), saying they will win the six games that are left. Is he serious? What contempt that shows for every other side.

Now, look, every team in a title race talks its chances up. But I find when you have to keep on telling people that you have “the right mentality” that says something. If the doubt exists then there’s a reason for that, isn’t there? Our own mentality has been questioned this season, but not one of our players has felt the need to constantly bang on about it.

You know why? Cause the allegation that we have a weak mentality is manifestly ridiculous. Most of our players have been over the course before. This is essentially last season’s players we’re doing this with, a weakened version of last season’s team. And the thing about that is that those players won a domestic treble. They know how to win. They know they can.

Tavernier and his team are ever wracked with self-doubt.

“We go into every game trying to win the game, nothing changes there,” he said. “We are obviously going into these six games and win every single game, that’s the (club) mentality to win games. We go to win games in Europe so nothing changes there. We obviously have to earn the right to deliver the performance that we know that we can.”

Ibrox making big predictions. Nothing changes there. Tavernier (Penalty) talking rubbish. Nothing changes there. Their team goes out to win games. Wow. What a great insight into their “mentality” that is. I thought every team went out to win every game.

Let’s look at what they are talking about here though; winning six games in a row, including all five after the split. It’s not impossible. But only one club has done it since the split was introduced. That was us, and we’ve done it three times.

Their club never has. Not once. They haven’t won at Celtic Park since Gerrard was boss, and not in front of our home crowd for even longer than that. But this team of theirs, which looks out on its feet, is going to win six league games straight?

When presented with questions about their mentality he had this to say; “I think we have shown it plenty of times, the mentality.” Ask their fans about that, and listen to what they have to say. You’ll hear the words “loser mentality” and “bottler” a lot.

Celtic fans love this stuff from these guys. How often did we hear it in the last two years? Other than the COVID campaign, when they didn’t have the pressure of having to play in front of any fans, they have never lived up to all the big talk.

Their own fans excoriate this guy every day on social media now, and there are questions as to whether he and Goldson and others should be retained next season, although, as I wrote yesterday, there’s little interest in either of them when they are earning the sort of stupid money they are on.

I hope our players express their confidence, but make it clear about that they recognise that the hard work that will have to be put in by every player as we advance down the road towards the title. Confidence is great. We always avoid sounding arrogant, and I hope it stays like that. The manager exuded confidence this weekend, but he’s been doing that for the last two months when the media was calling it false bravado. What do they call it now?

We are entitled to have a good snigger at Ibrox trying to put a good face on this stuff. Two wins in the last seven games does not suggest blistering form or the phony “momentum” we’ve heard so much about. Tavernier sounds like a man trying to convince himself more than anything else … and that’s worth a laugh or two. Nothing changes there.

That’s Mr Docherty’s team talk done for tomorrow night then !

I honestly think that at least one team outta the six that they have to play will use that motivation to gain points and hopefully Celtic as well…

Ach well – It’ll be a nice wee story for The Daily Record of The Scummy Scottish Football Media to print tomorrow then, The Sevco Guillibears will buy it by the barrow load and the Celtic Gullibillys on other sites (CQN & SC) that embarrassingly for them openly and shamefully admit to reading it !

Bloody Hell – How awesome would it be to see Penalty Tav fall flat on his face tomorrow night after that tirade…

But (a) Tavernier Penalty must (and probably will) be given to Penalty Tavernier tomorrow evening !

  • Kevan McKeown says:

We’re obviously in a good position and ahm well pleased wi that. Although we (our own support), the last thing we should be doin, is givin them any motivation, or determination, by comin away wi all this over confident ‘they’re done’ and ‘the leagues all but over’ etc. stuff ahm hearin and readin. Should be exercisin caution wi that. Leave all that shit tae their support. Hopefully we can go on from here and we’re definitely capable. Tho NOTHIN’S done yet and there could easily be a few situations crop up, that could influence and settle the outcome of this league. Keep the heid.

    • Jamie D says:

Well said Kevan, that’s it in a nutshell. We will have plenty of time to gloat after the league has been won, and they are concentrating on retaining the “pre-season “ cup. As long as VAR is available, we should be concerned by the actions of the morons operating it. They will attempt to win by any means possible, whether legal or not, with the assistance of the ‘brothers in black’. There is little doubt that without the promise of the European millions, they are once again in financial trouble. We should expect all forms of skullduggery from their many friends with the whistle. Let’s take one game at at a time, full concentration for each game and don’t give the whistlers the opportunity to give them penalties. HH

      • Kevan McKeown says:

@ jamie d. The officials are a big concern mate aye, tho let’s hope there’s nae other injuries.

    • Tony Macaroni says:

      Hi fellow Celtic fan.
I would rather do our talking on the park and maintain focus on how we perform.
While I understand why you might run down our rivals ability to win the league and indeed win their final six games, I prefer not to give them ammunition to shoot us down.
Especially with VAR and some potentially difficult games to come, mistakes and nerves may play a part and although they don’t normally win at Celtic Park, I’d rather not be over confident and keep the team focussed, as I hope and expect they will be.

  • Captain Swing says:

What Tavpen and his cohort – Pete Beale’s “leadership group” – actually have is the mindset of wannabes, dreamers and bullshitters. It is as hardwired as their accents and it won’t change. That’s why they have been wobbling like weebles for weeks now. The expectation is like a crushing weight on their shoulders. I am no great fan of the likes of Gough, Ricksen or Butcher but you could see clearly how they drove their teammates on when they were having off-days. Nobody in Sevco’s squad has that, least of all Captain Fantastic himself, ‘disappointing James’.

I can hardly wait for the game at Dens Park or McDiarmid Park because I genuinely think they will screw-up again as do a lot of their fans that I’ve spoke to. They think it’s all over already anyway. Only we can save their season now….. and season ticket renewal month is not a good time to be throwing them a lifeline.

  • JimBhoy says:

Most of the duds will be at Ibrox next season, Tavs and Goldson have a couple of years to run, Lundstram’s contract is up but he wont get the same money elsewhere so he’ll be looking for a new deal.

I’ve read the comments but if no CL money no big rebuild, simples.!

  • Charles says:

The only thing they have in their locker is the referees. May one of them will put their career on the line to let their loved club win the big money . Maybes I, maybes naw.

  • Roonsa says:

If it is true what you said in a previous article about Tav earning 40K per week then I suspect he has to say things like that. We have six games to win. We are going to win them all and win the League.

It certainly is fighting talk and that lot love that pish. I much prefer Brendan’s approach. Ask the fans to give 100% and they will get it back with the performances on the pitch.

That’s what I would rather hear than something that has the potential to come back to bite you on the arse.

  • Jim M says:

Agree James, tavpen does seem to be trying to convince himself, we came through our slump in performance, CAN THEY!

  • Ecky says:

James as long as the men in black orange & VAR help them win, what can stop them? Not even us.

  • Hunbasher says:

They better win against Hearts at the weekend. Because that’s their last chance of picking up a runner’s up medal. I think they,ll manage that in the League though. ??Simply second best!

  • Wull says:

Let him mouth off. And Celtic can do there talking on the pitch as usual now 6 games and it’s ours again let’s do it ?????

  • Vinny Binham says:

    ???
