Celtic Leaves Ibrox With A Point, But That Feels LIke An Opportunity Lost.

It feels like a defeat. That’s the mood, that’s how I feel right now. We come out of this game having been 2-0 in front and then 3-2 in front before a scandalous amount of injury time which benefited only the home club and the feeling I have is that we’ve not done enough, that today should have been better than this.

The home team is celebrating this with a lap of honour. Which in some ways is pathetic. They were absolutely outplayed for the first half.

But in the end why not? They rose from the dead today not once but twice. I take no satisfaction from the draw, because a lot has to happen between now and the end of the campaign .. but when we had them on the ropes stupid mistakes were costly. And that’s the story of the season. It’s why we are here.

Would I have taken the draw before this? Yes, of course. But 2-0 up and then with a 3-2 lead before the end, a win was the least that I expected. That was utter carelessness that cost us the win today, the same that has stalked us all season. Are we good enough to put them to the sword at Celtic Park? Yes we are, but if we’d done that job today then that game was a potential league decider and all the rest is noise.

It’s in our hands. They failed to kill us today, that’s the best that can be said about it, but I just don’t feel the sense of accomplishment that I would have before this kicked off, although at half time I thought we were almost certainly heading down the home straight in front. It just does not feel as if we took from that the deserved prize.

I actually don’t understand what the Hell happened in that second half. We backed off, we let them run the game when in the first we’d been absolutely dominant. So dominant, in fact, that I thought another goal would seal the deal.

We got the third; still we couldn’t keep them from an equaliser. They are bouncing tonight, thrilled that they got the result that keeps them alive … and I understand why because really, it’s all they’ve got. The advantage has passed to us … in a sense. But it depends on us winning all our games now and whilst we can do it the question as to whether we will is another matter entirely. They will feel fear … but we’ve made this tougher than it ever needed to be. We’ve won seven points from nine against them … and still we are not out of sight at the top of the table. That tells its own story.

I think we’ll win this. I’ve thought it for several weeks, and although I was sure that we would win today except for Beaten – more on that tomorrow – I am still pretty confident. I just don’t like throwing away a cast iron chance to put the pressure where it belongs.

And yet, for all that, I wonder if maybe we have … listen, when you’ve been 2-0 and then 3-2 up frustration at not winning is obvious. But they know they have to come to our house now and not lose, and that’s a lot harder for them to do than today was. Several natural advantages come in to play for our side … and then we’ll see.

Before the game I would have been happy with a draw now it’s them who are celebrating taking a point
What happened ? Beaton showed once again what he is… Walsh on Var too
Beaton clearly showed by the amount of
fouls we did not get what team he favours
Kuhn and Yang I never want to see again in a game like this and sorry to say Scales was
awful too, can’t pass the ball

  • Stephen Mc Dowell says:

Agreed that we let them back in and from both 0-2 and 2-3 up we should have taken the 3 points but lets not forget their first goal was never a penalty in a million years…..we all know what was behind that, their second goal was massively lucky with a huge deflection, their third is the only one I’d be concerned about, the defender letting him cut back inside and Harts positioning, it was a good strike but not top corner stuff. They are delighted they got a point after their first half horror show but they know they were completely schooled for 45 minute and will be absolutely dreading coming to our shop. Onwards and upwards!!

  • sligo123456 says:

We looked really really poor in the second half. Sitting in defending for our life. Not the celtic way. We should have killed them off in the 2nd half as they are utter pish. Better than a defeat, just, thats how I feel right now.

  • Tom Finesy says:

Well you just said it,you would have taken a draw.you must be joking, ask your dad if this is a great result.they are piss.we will destroy them at parkhead.thats a result the day.leagues lost if we get beat,we didn’t.

  • Quietly Brilliant says:

Unlucky Today But the Celtic Board Need to take into Account the Equation of The officials before the season starts? …..in My view it is Negligent and they need stop Prioritising the SHARE PRICE.

  • Peter Cassidy says:

Bad result why we let them back in was poor play from the team it’s let them gain the advantage if they win the game in hand and would only need a draw against us at parkhead providing they don’t drop points and us till that match. It

  • John McGuigan says:

Callum wasn’t fit enough to be on today and it showed with the wayward pass for the goal
but i get why Hatate was taken off he was staring to look leggy, but still wonder whether he could have lasted a little longer before bringing Callum on that and the dodgy Penalty, and extra time which i knew was guaranteed for them…i think we will get over the line but were are doing it the hard way for sure Hail Hail.

  • Partick Bhoy says:

Your right James, but when you look at the big picture, corrupt ref, no fans .Its in our hands. 6 wins and theres nothing they can do.And myself personally,it will be one of the best.??

  • SARAH says:

Yang can’t play at Tynecastle and Ibrox, the boy hasn’t a clue. Ralston should have been on as a right midfielder in front of Johnston. Poor management. Did Strachan show Yang Matandos goal against Hibs last week, if not why not?

  • Clara says:

That ” Penalty ” they got was a disgrace, once again the ref hand’s them a life line.

  • Kevan McKeown says:

Disappointin (tae say the least) we couldnae get the win. They they were done, finished, until they got their penalty and another gift. They only came intae it after that. That divin embarrassment silva, was already on his way down AGAIN when the foot came across. Ffs, he even kissed one of his team mates when beaton went tae the var. And if they had gotten away with their disallowed goal, when just about everybody saw the foul in the build up, it would’ve been scandalous. We’ve even clemmont, who’s as deluded as the rest of them, now sayin they were ‘special’ today, they are the winners and makin some crackpot claim ours wasn’t a penalty. The reality is they salvaged that game today and we should’ve seen it out. And that was them at home wi no Celtic support there.

  • king murdy says:

simple james…we are not as strong as we were last year….and they are…
and that is down to lack of quality recruitment…and that is back to the board and manager.
i’m sure it was a good game for the neutrals(sic)..like you…feels like a defeat.
am certain we willl take them at parkhead….but we have other matches that can cause us to loose points….
used to be…i could relax with a 2 goal lead – against ANY opponent – but now, i feel we need a 3 goal lead, simply because we just are not secure enough at the back.
we can still retain the title – it’s in our own hands – as it is in the huns own hands – but if we do retain…then the huns wi have to go and take a really good look at themselves…because for most of the season we’ve been there for the taking….and that is down to the board and manager…

  • Fun time frankie says:

Sorry james ,but I have to disagree, today Taylor, scalesand iwata imo were to put it bluntlywere absolute pishplus if callum doesn’t give the ball away we might have got the victory.

  • Gerry says:

It’s fair to say, that a lot of us felt similarly, when Cheaton blew time up, after 53 mins of the second half.

For me, the dynamics of the game changed completely, with the award and subsequent scoring of their penalty.

First half, we should have been out of sight but for wasteful finishing and their gk’s saves, especially from O’Riley’s header.

Second half, we knew that the third goal was crucial. They got it, and the impetus swung their way.
Just for the record, I thought Beaton’s overall performance, was a disgrace. I appreciate the narrative from non Celtic sources will be, ‘but we got a penalty, and they had a goal chalked off.’ Both were 100% correct decisions, and there would have been bedlam if either hadn’t been correctly officiated.

We also got 4 yellow cards whilst Sevco players escaped any punishment…a fair reflection of 100 mins…doubtful!!!

Now, I agree we should have been professional enough to see a game out when 2-0 and 3-2 ahead…an uncharacteristic pass from our skipper led to their second, and Yang allowed their winger onto his favoured peg, for the equaliser…similar to one Kent scored last season too. However, the pattern of assistance was there, and got them back into a game, they were never in.

Having said all this, we didn’t lose and it’s still VERY much in our hands ! Six wins ( 4 home and 2 away,) wins us this title !
They have 5 away and 2 home games, I believe.

Our squad is back to full strength and will get better for the run in.

The officials will still have their part to play ( as we saw today !)
But we shall retain this title and stick two fingers up at all of them !

    • Henriksgoldenboot says:

Gerry. Today was an exercise of the system. To put a referee under pressure into the spotlight and to have an AI system that was and still is questionable used to its maximum potential to try expel any doubt from its biggest critics so there was no questioning of any decisions during the game as all decisions were deemed to be fair. Apart from the fact we know they weren’t. The penalty against us being a case in point. It will be argued now we were the beneficiaries of said system gaining a penalty and having a goal chopped off against us. This was a win win for the SFA all the way.

    • Timbilly says:

Stats show that Celtic committed 23 fouls whereas ibrox team committed only 10.
That proves to me that the referee was only too eager to give sevco a free kick every time one of their players fell down and very reluctant to give Celtic the same when their players were consistently fouled throughout.
Beaton is and has always been a cheat and Celtic should be demanding that he never again officiate anymore of their games.
He got the gig today in order to stop a Celtic victory. Mission accomplished.

  • bertie basset says:

in our hands you say james ? i very much have to disagree , i have said here previous and have said it several times, that cheaton would not have to do the heavy lifting today , it would be down to the var man to make his contribution and take the heat off cheaton ,
cheaton did his bit at hearts as the var man and as i have said previous they are all involved in the cheating as it is too much for one man to do it alone , it shows the pattern is consistent and all in check with each other , i have used the tag team description before too as that is what they are i believe , they have put their heads together to scheme up the most audacious passages of play to dupe the onlookers ,
Do not try to tell me that the yellow on fakio for diving today was not rehearsed with cheaton and his var man , only for cheaton to be over ruled by his var tag team mate and taking the heat and suspicion off him to later award another penalty , this is not over by a long shot , they will win all their games and need just to draw at celtic , we will need to win and win convincingly to nullify the officials and var , the appointment of cheaton for todays game alone speaks volumes in rubbing our nose’s in it and laughing at BR even shug agrees there ffs !!

  • Jack says:

John Beaton embarrassed again today. How could he be so sure Silva dived and then go back on it. That’s the moment that allowed the coffin lid to creak open. Celtic will win this as Sevco can not keep being this “lucky”

    • Timbilly says:

Our board has to ask for audio between ref and var concerning sevs penalty and have Nick Di Marco on the case.

  • Dan Dwan says:

Should have been 4-0 at half time James and it was game over! Then upsteps the cheatin Beaton and his TAV assistants… farcical penalty award no doubts and yellow cards dished out to 3 of our players before half time weren’t warranted if so they should have had at least 3 of the same. We were the architects of their second goal misplaced pass from our captain ( maybe a game too early for him) and a deflected shot which led to the goal so no complaints there. One thing I learnt today is that Yang can’t defend and needs to work a lot on that part of his game should have been much tighter at their equaliser and turned the lad inside. The penalty for me was the momentum changer in addition our midfield Hatate & Riley ran out of steam around the 50 minute mark. We know what we have to do now – win every game and the league is ours – it’s in our hands we don’t need any favours from anyone. Keep CV fit get CalMac & Hatate back to speed and the title is ours.

  • Chopper_23uk says:

I thought BR had set the team up, not to commit fouls inside the box.

Take the yellow card, but don’t give them the chance of a VAR penalty.

    Sadly, that fell apart.

  • Johnny Green says:

It feels like a defeat to be honest. I was expecting a victory before we kicked off and that was reinforced by a dominant first half display. A bit gutted now at losing a two goal lead, that should never happen no matter who you are playing. We were in a league winning position and now it is back in the melting pot. I’m still confident we will win the league, but we have given them a lifeline. Let’s hope that Dundee can rise to the occasion in midweek.

  • Bunter says:

Go beyond the immediate James. I know how you’re feeling – like all of us. But, we went there and left with point. Even with Beaton handing them a way back into the match. This was their cup final. They HAD to win today. They didn’t. We leave there, our injured list clearing up, we regroup during the week and go and win the next games 6 to win the league. And on Wednesday night while we are at home resting, they are playing a Dundee team with something to play for. On a heavy pitch. This point today could be invaluable come the end of the season.
