Scott Brown, Johan Mjallby’s Europa Dream.

|

The Diary shouts “Bradley fecking Walsh” no wonder it drinks, sometimes

It was nice of those good people at UEFA to have the Europa League draw during The Diary’s day job lunchtime. It gave a chance to look down a list that most names looked like they had been selected by Carole for Countdown conundrums. It was quite a leveller looking at the list that contained SC Tavriya, Simerfopol, FC Metalist Kharkiv, FK Qarabag, FC Dnepr Mogilev and Motherwell.

The famous Belinda Carlise was right when she said: “We dream the same dream, we want the samethings.” We now want the same things as them.

It didn’t take Scott Brown long to deliver a sugar coating so sickly sweet that to much would have you heading for the nearest toilet. A bit like listening too much to Belinda  ‘When you see Fulham getting all the way to the final like that it can inspire you. And look at Rangers two years before that.’Anything can happen and that’s what we’re looking to do now.’ warbled our captain.

The jury was not needed to decide if we are a better team than Fulham, we’re not,  but they’re split whether we are better than 2008 R*ngers team. Not Proven was the verdict.  A new jury has been called.

“The supporters should expect us to really go for it and go on a good run because we are going to make sure the players are up for it, It’s really important for Celtic Football Club to do well in Europe. To reach the final in Seville in 2003 was a great lift for the club and the Celtic supporters. It would be a great experience for the current group of players to do well in Europe and try to get the supporters back.” big Johan, looking like he had just came out the shower, his hair slicked backed and seemingly flustered as if he had just been having trantric sex with Sting and Trudy, said after Fridays draw.

Had nothing been learned from the proclamations made by Peter Lawwell and Gary Caldwell last season?

Earlier this week Mark Hughes was thankful that “We don’t have the distraction of the Europa League” when talking about his hopes for Fulham next season. This irked. Fulham’s greatest achievement belittled by a man who sees finishing 10th or above as success. Some Fulham fans even bought new chinos and shoes for the final. I bet he never said that in the interview for the job.

The Europa League Play Offs contain some comedy gold. It also contains hope. Middle Europe is not as scary as it once was as the have nots all become average and beatable. See Braga as an example. The biggest regret is that we weren’t prepared for them.

FC Utrecht finished 7th in the Eredivisie last season a full 33 points behind champions Fc Twente. The Europa League is full of these duds. We should smash them. They probably say the same about us.

So, lets look up flights to Dublin for the final to a sound track of Belinda. Or at least prepare for Europe after Noddy Holder finishes screaming: “It’s Christmas“.

Whether it happens is all down to preparation. This competition should not be seen as a ‘distraction’.

A somewhat idiosyncratic take on positivity.

The Europa League is fun if you get to the final. If you go out before then you’ve just tired out your players and risked your domestic campaign. Let’s hope we get to Dublin then.

And another thing, YNWA or not, we DON’T want to play Liverpool again. Last season with Hamburg and Rapid Vienna there was some bite at least. Shame Mowbray was in charge.

I will always declare that for the greater good of our club ( our The Brand ad it’s known by the suits) we have be seen in Europe and beating teams we should be.

Brags should have been disposed of and Utrecth need to be.

Being in Europe year after year is a must.
Apart from anything else, it’s one argument we can use to entice half decent players to Paradise (in theory anyway).

    @ sixtaeseven

spot on, Inverness on a Wednesday doesn’t attract even below average players.

those that belittle european involvement need to see the big picture.
