Lawwell is “Sussed”

International week should be a quiet time for our ‘revered’ and ‘feared’ CEO, maybe time to chalk up some hours topping up that tan, Skype the major shareholder a few times or replace the worn out mirrors in your home.

He wouldn’t be expecting his workings to be ridiculed and questioned.

James McFadden was first up:

“It was just the way things were approached. I could expand on that, but I’m not going to.

“It’s just one of those things. I don’t know how concrete the interest was. Obviously I was in talks with Celtic, but I don’t know what their intentions were.”

‘Faddy’ has yet to play for Everton.

Then yesterday we learned:

“The Hoops were delighted the Dutchman (Bolo Zenden) decided to train with the club for a short period but both parties have agreed not to take the move further following discussions.”

To paraphrase aging rockers: “Hey Peter, leave those big kids alone”.

It seems that our dealings with players (both current and hopeful) are becoming more awkward and that the words abrasive, arrogant, allusive and down right cheeky could be used to describe them.

He may or may not be what you suggest but this article lacks any evidence of any wrong doing on his part. Put up or shut up as they say.

    • lordofthewing says:

So, delays in resigning players, constant meddling (Bangura) and treating us like mugs (McFadden) is not put up enough?

    • jimthetim says:

bhoyvince wake up and smell the coffee a bankrupt huns going for 4 in a row willo flood 50gs not big fletch shameful mccarthy a wee tim out bid by wigan and not accepting 29 mill from the unnamed club shameful he will destroy this club himself

  • dunkybhoy says:

pl seems to get the blame all the time. listen i hate missing out on players as much as the next guy, but if money wasn’t an issue im sure pl would rubber stamp every deal, but he has orders as well.

    • lordofthewing says:

Do you really think we were ever serious in signing McFadden? What was it two days before what was going to be a difficult AGM he was linked?

      • jocky bhoy says:

So are you saying we shouldn’t have been talking to mcfadden so close to the agm? In case it didnt work out?

The team’s business carries on even if there’s agms and shareholder meetings.

        • lordofthewing says:

No what I am saying is we started talking to McFadden in the run up to the AGM as a smokescreen. We had no intentons of signing him.

        • jockybhoy says:

You can say that. Heck you can even believe that, but you don’t know that.

  • Gannonball says:

Lawell has practically free reign of the club/plc.

With all his so called great corporate spin our turnover is massively down along with our trophy count. Yes we can blame lesser TV deals but not for the amount that its gone down.
The man can clearly negociate well for selling players (Miller,Mcgeady etc) however he should not be allowed anywhere near the buying market,as for all his shrewd buys theres been the missed opportunites (Steven Fletcher and James Mccarthy – do you honestly think any celtic manager wouldnt want these players ?) typified when he claimed the club was selling Gabriel Tamas (a centre back which we were crying out for at the time and havnt found one since) were wanting too much money then all of sudden hes gone out on loan to somewhere?! He likes to drag his heals and plays hard to get which as a club in a poor league with not champions league we cant afford to be like anymore.
Now unbelievably hes taken a hypocritical role at the SFA to top it off, get to fuck.

    • lordofthewing says:

Great point. We seem to have the big club mentality but are really a small club when it comes to things in the real world.

About the control he has over the club. He runs EVERYTHING right down to ordering toilet rolls.

  • Neverbeten says:

What a shame you don’t realise what a gem we have in Lawell. And invade you didn’t notice, Izzaguire and Kayal have recently signed new deals. You know them- the two guys the Scittish rags tried to sell all summer. If that’s not enough, write down for me the top Celtic players of the last 7 years he’s SMS at their peak. I’ll start you off – McGeady. That’s it.

    • Mark says:

you have to say though the amount of good looking players lennon had on trial that just get thrown away by lawwell is just shocking, and the players get embarrassed because it doesnt look good for their CV. Eventually players are going to reject trials with us because they know they just wont get anywhere. Lawwell is FAR too tight. I am pleased he has us in a stable condition, but far too cautious.

    • lordofthewing says:

Yes, they have signed new deals. Kayal’s dragged on so long that it effected his game.

also, as you point out are we going to see his biggest mistake of all in Scott Brown walk away for nothing?

  • Neverbeten says:

    *sold

  • raymond4cs says:

How the does anybody know exactly what happens inside the boardroom (in this case), what I do believe is that before we had Lawell we had a consistant number of numpties as CEO’s before, Zenden is a 35/36 year old player who (I don’t believe we need) and if we had signed we would have the same number of complaints about “it’s just another Keane or Freddie”

    • lordofthewing says:

True, so why the fuss in the first place? It’s another case of ego massage and a cry of: “look I am trying to do something”

  • Michael says:

Two links don’t make a chain, does anyone believe Izzy or Kayal would have got a run in MON’s side….
no chance, as I’ve said before they two player’s are only better than any of our other recent signings over the past two years. A sad indictment of where Celtic have fallen in World football. Our best players, most people mention were two player’s that nobody had ever heard of.

  • Michael says:

if the mcfadden thing was actually just a big farce – then I for one could not be happier! he’s awful – always has been and then he got injured. ok he will score 1 amazing goal per season, probably in a big game – he offers nothing more than this. Im far from a scotland supporter but i firmly beleive we’d have got to the play offs in the group with italy and france if it wasnt for him – despite his goal in france.
Whilst PL should not be above criticism – people just need to chill out – accept we won our last game and hope this is the start of a run.

ps – come 1st of feb – james forest, ki, hooper stokes, kayal will all still be celtic players – as will broony who will have signed a new contract by then.

    • lordofthewing says:

This is not a question of if the player was any good or even wanted in the first place. This farce had the smell of face saving from our CEO written all over it and ‘Faddy’ was a pawn in is game.

Await Jan and the number of ‘big named’ loan signings he feeds to the press like a master feeding to captive seals.

  • Stevie says:

Say what you will about Peter Lawwell but unlike the Shame we ain’t goin bust.

    • Jim says:

We are not going bust but who is going to win 4 in a row???? Who has most trophies stacked up recently with all that lovely champions league money in the bank?? Oh I forgot is it the club that is going bust or the well run club with the puppet PL at the helm. Embarassing is a word that comes to mind. Celtic need to show a little spirit in the signing policy and on the field.

      Hail Hail

    • john says:

Yeah , and unlike the shame we are not going for 4 in a row , no debt or no trophies ? what would you prefer Stevie ? we don,t have to bankrupt ourselves but we should never be in the position we are , chasing a club that is going bust

  • James says:

I don’t have a problem with PL at all. We Celtic fans have to simply realise that the days of big singings are long gone and Celtic are a well run club with expert business personnel at the helm. To have no debt without a good European run for a few yrs now is an unbelievable achievement.

If you look at a team like Porto who have less income but a greater profit margine, it boils down to the fact they have a great European record based on home grown talent being used and great scouting system which enables them to sell at outstanding profit dealings and so on and so forth.

Ultimately this is the only way you’ll see Celtic FC in another Euro final in our life time and it’s something I DO see happening taking into consideration our youth developement system and our excellent scouting system which will pay dividends in the next few yrs I’m sure and the credit must be given to our currect board who I think are doing a magnificent job.

    HH 1 NL YNWA 😀

    • lordofthewing says:

It’s not about big signings. We all know that they don’t exist in our world any more. ‘Faddy’ admitted our signing attempts were a joke, we missed out on the goalie that Lenny wanted, we signed a striker behind our managers back, wouldn’t pay for Kelvin Wilson in January and in a slow news week we take a player who would come in as a high earner on trial only to look daft once again. The reason. We all knew that he wouldn’t sign from the beginning.

Porto can bring in south americans very easily due to easily obtainable work permits, they are not the model we can follow.

  • john says:

    Stevie
Rangers are not going bust. They may go into administration but they will remain and will continue in exactly the same manner as they have been for decades.
They will also look back at this particular period as one of the greatest in their history. DVD’s will be sold in their thousands extolling the feats of various teams who disgraced Celtic when they were bankrupt. Can you imagine the mileage we would get out of it?
Do you remember when we were in the same position? Not quite the same story. They won 9 in a row and between 1990 and 1995 we won two Scottish Cups. I think they may have won 7 or more trophies since becoming ‘skint’. Everyone at Celtic should be ashamed of allowing this to happen.

    • lordofthewing says:

      Good point BUT

R@ngers spent £35.4m since becoming skint. That’s £35.4m of someone elses money that they never have any intention of paying back and were only loaned due to corrupt banking practices that are currently bringing the world economy and capitalism as we know it to it’s knees.

Not that our CEO has covered himself in glory during that time.

  • Ciaran says:

If Zenden was a center-back or goalie with the same degree of experience behind him, I would be more upset.
Let’s address the positions that need attention.

  • Gannonball says:

I cant believe someone’s mentioned his ability to tie folk down, one of his first acts as CEO was to hand Bobo that rediculous contract that haunted us, then he has the audacity to have a go at bobo when it was his fault why he was still here. Im sure Strachan would have like to have utilised him but Liewell let his ego get in the way and we were paying millions to a guy to train with the youngsters, aye , good one liewell.

    • jocky bhoy says:

Maybe that’s the point? Reports at the time were that it was MON who pushed for that and the club had to honour it?

The fact that a bunch of professional footballers are disappointed they didn’t get a professional contract is fine by me. They either priced themselves out of the opportunity or we decided we would be better off signing someone else.

Mcfadden complains he didn’t feel wanted enough? Wtf does that mean? He went for a job and didn’t get it. Simple. Dont go whining to the rags. Get on with the job you have. Last thing we need is a well paid prima donna on the treatment table.

      • lordofthewing says:

McFadden didn’t feel wanted enough as he was a pawn in Peter’s game. Plus it looks like Zenden was wanted but the man from Del Monte he said no.

Ps, I fully expect Lenny to come out and deny the Zenden story but no smoke with matches.

        • jockybhoy says:

So you are willing to take the word of two players who we didn’t sign and who would obviously have an axe to grind against the word of our manager and management team?

Fair play to you. I prefer to believe the people who have a direct responsibility for the running of our club rather than a couple of mercenaries who would probably play in Qatar if the price was right.

McFadden was offered a trial – Lennon expressed a strong interest in signing him but rightly said we wanted to take a look at him ourselves and that it would probably be a short term contract leading to a longer one if it worked out. What I took from the “unclear” message Faddy gave was that Celtic wanted a test drive before parting with the readies and even then it seems he wanted a longer contract.

Q: Did McFadden actually come to Glasgow and do a trial?

          • lordofthewing says:

Ok, McFadden, offered a trial when we knew full well that he wouldn’t take it (Wolves and Everton had already offered him a deal).

The majority who get trials are big names probably offered to our football department overseen by Peter. Ljunberg last season, the coaching staff didn’t think he had enough to offer but he got a deal. Seemingly Zenden was wanted by the coaching staff and didn’t get a deal.

Why? Zenden not good enough looking for the summer catalogue?

It seems we sign players that could present openings for the brand. It seems to be a consideration along with their talent. That has the pawmarks of the CEO all over it. Zenden wasn’t marketable enough. That’s my take.

  • sandyceltic says:

Talk about lazy journalism! This story is worthy of a place in the rags. I appear to have wasted my time reading it. PLFA

  • Big Mike says:

Our board are a tight bunch of bassas and that is all there is to it! They shower on their knees financially and going for 4 in a row! Bloody disgusting! Lawell gtf and take that Desmond et all with you!

  • seaney67 says:

just a quick mention on the bigot rag’s international week’s side issue. P.L and co. Will do more to appease the mud thrower’s than there own costumer’s as the next days and weeks will show. And since when did uefa ban political songs at football matchs. Poppy’s acceptable .but the boys of the old brigade not. Bollocks to that. The precedent was set last week. Thank you english f.a

  • paranoidandroid says:

Speaking as someone with a Hillsborough long hatred of the Sun, I hate to have to admit it, but I’d believe them before I’d believe a single, solitary word that comes out of PL’s face. I really wish more of our fans would judge him on what he actually does, rather than what he says.

With this latest “signing” farce, the main issue isn’t whether we needed another left-winger or not. It’s whether NL wanted Bolo Zenden or not. I think the main problem, once again, is that PL, an accountant, is making footballing decisions at our club. That’s why our squads in such a state.

The only person who should be making such decisions is the manager, NL. He should decide who he buys and who he doesn’t buy, and if it goes wrong, then he takes the blame for it.

The solution is that board should give NL a budget, then leave him the feck alone to do his job. Stick to what your supposed to be good at Mr Lawell.

  • John D says:

it’s all piss and wind other than what is happening on the park – remember everybody – thats why we are supposed to exist!!!???

on the park we’r shite, on paper we’r a global brand – all bullshit – we’r a ‘great’ club in the minds of an ever decreasing audience.

unless we change our approach from top down we will soon be a club that only trades in nostalgia.

any defender of PW and DD on the basis of a balance sheet is missing the most important point of all – we’r a fitba club not just an excuse to sell merchandise.

i’m from the beating the so called unbeatable leeds utd at hampden days, to see where we are now is so so sad and so unnecessary – we have the funds to spend more without breaking the bank – we just dont have the right people with vision at the top to take us forward.

we better wake up soon before the climb back is too much.

PW and DD, do something imaginative, excite the fans, show us with actions that we have a plan to re energise the club and start to make even a little mark in europe once again… if neither of you can do this then get out and let someone in that can… if only you had half the wit and energy of the Green Brigade.

but stop giving us all this ‘big club’ bullshit whilst running us like a corner shop.
i’m fkn sick of it and sick of so many fans falling for it.

keep the faith… tough as it is.

  • Mac says:

He’s just an imposter who’s set the club back years with his pathetic marketing strategy, penny pinching, useless managerial appointments and interfering with transfers etc etc.

    End of!

We ain’t winning either, one cup recentl hardly worth shouting about.
