There is a quite amazing post from an Ibrox fan doing the rounds tonight, and it casts an interesting light on their club and its situation. Bear in mind that this takes in the Survival Lie, but let’s for the moment pass over that and focus on what he’s written.

Paul Brennan over at CQN has talked, often, of a “generation of dominance.”

He is right. Because we have been the dominant club in the country in the past 30 years.

Just how dominant though?

Well, one Ibrox fan has attempted to answer this.

“If you were born in 1965,” he writes, “you suffered Celtic winning 30 league titles to our 21. If were born in 2000 you’ve suffered them winning 15 to our 6. If you were born in 2005 you’ve suffered them winning 12 titles to our 4 … it has been 20 years since we won our 50th title and in that 20 years we’ve only won a further 5.”

That is damning. Even ignoring the Survival Lie that is an incredible fact. Even with their four years of climbing the leagues, those facts must be shocking to contemplate.

Had it not been for Walter Smith’s final mad financial splurge, and the disaster of last season, those stats would be even worse.

The simple truth of it is that we have been Scotland’s dominant club since at least 2000.

The last 22 years have seen some bad years, but the overall trend has been of Celtic superiority, and I have written a lot on here about how we’re the last remaining football superpower in this country.

Their club has had good years, but most of them were built on accumulating debt … which makes our consistency and our success over the period all the more remarkable, because we did it clean and on a sustainable basis. We don’t get enough credit for that.

Here’s what the guy doesn’t say.

League form doesn’t even tell the full story.

Because Ibrox clubs have only won four Scottish Cups since 2000. Four. We have won ten of them. They have won six League Cups since 2000. Celtic have won nine. The dominance is clear even here.

Remember; the Ibrox clubs have had the second biggest budget in the country for the whole of that time, even accounting for Sevco having to start in the bottom tier. Their record should look a Hell of a lot better than it does … and I actually regard us as having underachieved in both of those competitions over that timeframe.

Regardless, the facts are clear and I am just amazed that an Ibrox fan is the one who has publicised some of them. Some of them do get it you know. Some of them do understand that we are the biggest club in the country.

They might not like it, but yeah … they certainly understand it.

As Phil Mac highlights in his own blog today, it is all thanks to the “Bunnet’s” Paradise rebuild with the 10,000 additional capacity ensuring that we will always outstrip them financially. Wee Fergus’s legacy will continue to stand us in good stead as the No. 1 Club in Scotland. Overtaking their trophy haul is firmly in our sights, we will soon reach that plateau and then continually add to it. The future is Green and White.

  • Johnny Green says:

Oh, and we won’t ever be sticking any wee stars on our jersies at any stage, perish the thought, but overtaking their haul will certainly make theirs look all the tackier.

Lol the dafties on radio snyde tonight had been telling a different story.
More than one caller was saying this, one even said that the league this season should we win it,well it won’t be on merit because apparently sevco gift wrapped it and gave it to us.But when the question was reversed and put back to him about sevco winning it last season, well it was because sevco deserved to win it and without any help in Celtic losing games or dropping points.
Even Halliday told the guy he was wrong and that’s saying something.

  • Edward Mc Graw says:

I was born in the late 50s, can only comment on seasons I actually lived through, in the 6 decades since, with the exception of the 90s, Celtic have won more championships than our rivals, including twice completing 9 in a row,now that’s what I call a generation of domination.

  • Mark B says:

Born 1963 so I recognise the dominance apart from 1989 to 2000. Also we should have won even more missing out narrowly 1980 1983 2003 2005 2009 2011 which would have given us ten in a row! O’Neil also lost a couple of cup finals we should have won. League Cup 2003 and Scottish Cup 2002 in particular stand out. and League Cup 2011 under Lennon and Partick Raith and a few others!

  • Stephen McAdam says:

And we have won way more if that fraud lennon had not blew so many big games and semi finals! The only 2 season we failed to amassed over 80 points since 2000/2001 that wee fraud was manager also! And still he whines the self entitled twat he is! A disgrace that he was ever in posy he should never been manager of Celtic ever!

  • Stephen McAdam says:

    Ever in post even

  • Edward Mc Graw says:

Stephen, I suggest you go and have a lie down, yes,Neil Lennons final season did not play out as any of us would have hoped, and yes, he does carry a large part of the blame but, this is a mhan who faced the most evil intimidation and stood up to a very real threat to his life, never once flinching, no thought of backing away or hiding, he did a lot more for Celtics cause than you or I, to call him a fraud says a lot more about you than it does him.

  • MArk B says:

Lennon is an all time Celtic hero. Yes he made mistakes in last season but as a player and manager he was part of our two decade dominance, probably more than any other. If you cannot accept that you need to go lie down. We need to look more at our European failures last 20 years. Rangers (old then new) got to a UEFA Final in 2008 and are now in a semi….amazingly just 10 years after liquidation, this is frankly phenomenal and ZERO to do with referees FFS. We haven’t been near since 2004 and CL in 2007 last 16. So yes we have dominated domestically but we need to look more at building for long term and trying to make an impact at Europa LEague level and reach CL more regularly.

  • DAN DWAN says:

Hopefully Ange will continue to add more quality and depth to the squad in the near future and also retain CCV & Jota. If he maintains the ability to make a shrewd signing then we will have a right good crack at European football next season.
