SPFL Governance Is A Joke And Yet Ibrox Has Failed To Lay A Glove On Its Leadership.

The SPFL board is congratulating itself tonight after an “independent report” basically said they do a decent job. The independent report was commissioned after the Ibrox club demanded it; more of Scottish football’s valuable time and money pissed away in trying to satisfy them.

You have to wonder how independent a report it was if it suggested that these guys are doing just fine, and whilst there are recommendations – and I want to see the full details of what those are – they are briefing the media that they have been vindicated.

What an embarrassment Ibrox are that they cannot lay a glove on this pitiful band who do not actually lead and do not seem to want to.

As I write this, the Scottish Football Supporters Association has released an excoriating letter to Ian Maxwell at the SFA. It is one of the most devastating critiques of football governance you will read anywhere and I will do a full article on it later.

Whilst the SFA and the SPFL are separate bodies, they work hand in glove so closely that it is almost impossible to separate them on many issues … and neither is fit for purpose.

The SFSA are an outstanding group and the one organisation in this whole country which cares enough about the reform agenda to organise around the principle. The media doesn’t care. The clubs don’t seem to care. It was always going to be the job of the fans to push for real changes in the game and that’s one of the things the SFSA exists to do.

Ibrox is not interested in affecting real change. They want to purge the governing bodies of pro-Celtic influence, that’s their intent. And they are so hell-bent on doing so that they’ve botched the job and strengthened the leadership at Hampden instead, which as far as I’m concerned should be enough to get you flogged in George Square.

A major club which wants reform should be pushing on an open door. The moment one emerges which looks like it is willing to lead a change agenda, they should be able to rally support and get it done in a way a fan organisation can only dream about. The Ibrox club talks about being the biggest club in the land – we know it’s nonsense, but that’s their self-image. How do they account for the fact that their efforts against these people have flopped?

The only clubs which followed them over the famous Dundee email case were those which got relegated, and so they weren’t actually backing Ibrox as they were looking out for their own interests. Nobody credible – I don’t include the hacks like Jackson and English who slabbered all over it – supported their dodgy dossier. When it came to the sponsorship row, the clubs allowed the ruling bodies to work on it when Ibrox clearly wanted to lead a revolution. At every turn they have gone so far over the top in their tactics – as with the Collum thing – that most of the other stakeholders have walked the other way in disgust.

Tonight’s news confirms that the SPFL have not taken a stunning blow far less a fatal one. Yes, they probably picked their own “independent” scrutineer, but that they were able to do that is damning in itself and nobody prevented them doing it, which goes to show how little respect the Ibrox club has amongst their peers.

And whilst I would not have wished to see them succeed in their spiteful campaign, they should have done real harm to this band of jokers and pushed our reform cause a little further up the mountain.

Their failure costs all of us and that is a mark of how amateurish they’ve been.

Not sure about not landing a glove. Cinch are walking away and Glenn’s Vodka is having the same hatchet job done on them. The Clubs are losing money because Sevco are doing what they like.

  • Dinger says:

As long as you have the crown the orange lodge sfa nothing will happen to rankers come sevco

  • Davie says:

Concentrate on Celtic, never mind all this paranoid nonsence about The SPFL and The Rangers, your sounding exactly like the paranoia that comes out of ibrox.
I’m more interested in our team, how we play, the players we have, our next game, our last game and how well we have done, build on positives please and let the Paranoid impersonators at ibrox ridicule themselves.

    • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

I hear you Davie regarding concentrate on Celtic, but this as Stewart Regan (former SFA chief) said…

“Scotland is a peculiar football country “ – He was bang on, 100% plus correct in that ascertation for sure –

I’m afraid ‘we weren’t paranoid enough’ and ‘we aren’t paranoid enough’ and ‘we’ll NEVER be paranoid enough’ about Sevco (and their late predecessor club) Rangers FC (died c,2022) !

  • Dando says:

If WC isn’t involved in a Sevco game AT the Dilapidated stadium in the next few weeks, they’ll have won…….

    HH

    • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

They’ve won before Dando with their demands re Collum (Was it six months) or thereabouts…

They might not have it so long this time due to the arse they made of it themselves on this occasion –

But it’ll be interesting to see for sure and also interesting to see how he performs in his first match back at them…

The SFA will just be gutted that they probably can’t have him involved in The next Glasgow Derby –

Having said that absolutely NOTHING would surprise me !

  • SFATHENADIROFCHIFTINESS says:

It was all ‘ smoke and mirrors’ as opposed to a ‘smoking gun’.
All for the consumption of the deluded hordes out of the DebtDome’ Look Lads, them big yins up the hill are holding us back so just keep on being staunch as you empty you pockets and we will take the fight to them’.

Their much vaunted ‘dossier’ had more holes than a hookers net stockings ( not that I’ve had cause to actually count them).
Deflection and keeping the ‘Victim Lie’ current. That’s all it was. Meanwhile the Bloo Room in-house Lawyer was busy backdating the exclusive contract, that never was, between Parki, the ex chairperson and the Tribute Act that nobbled the Cinch Sponsorship. A contract that Park previously signed up to with no objections.

The sooner they’re buried for good the better. Better for Scottish Football and more importantly better for Scotland.

    • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

What will we call the next lot (And there WILL be one of sorts) when this lot die…

‘The The’ “Rangers” or ‘The’ Sevco or The ‘New New’ Club –

Regardless they’ll still be poisonous, bitter, hateful, spiteful ‘peepil’ anyway…

Not all of course – But a very significant proportion of them !

  • SSMPM says:

If the Scottish Football Supporters Association are so great why the continuous hush hush and lack of reactions to the continued sectarian religious bigotry so obviously prevalent in our game by so many for so long of those very supporters.
Like ‘Kick It Out’ if it was against Jews or Muslims or specifically race targeted and related we’d hear all about it.
Personally I’d rather the SFSA started tidying in house the actions of the so called supporters behaviour they’re supposed to represent and called out them, the SFA, SPFL, press, radio and media for inaction (a weapon of mass destruction).
If that means addressing some of the shiteful bile that comes out of our very own stands on occasions as well as the “Fenian blood” nonsense we hear week in week out then I’d welcome that. The decent people in Scotland’s society deserve better. HH

    • Bhoy4life says:

I agree we have a section of our own support who cannot contain themselves, but that lot are built on hatred, bigotry and racism, its what defines them, Ive never met one of them who weren’t anti catholic, most didn’t know why, they just did, my own father in law, a more gentle, hard working, honest man u couldn’t find, even he had been indoctrinated at an early age.

  • Scouse bhoy says:

Have to disagree with you on this one they have forced the sfa into a corner regarding collum. We will just have to wait and see how long it takes for him to ref another game for them also sky sevco sports bending over backwards to assist them with this extra game. No one likes them aye right. They are above any laws and the rest of the clubs just sit back and accept it.

  • JAMES W MCALLISTER says:

I hope ur blog does.. I think what it’s meant to be to the entitled James lol the paranoia will only get worse.
