Celtic Clearly Suspect Something Rotten Over The Silva Penalty Decision.

One of the things I’ve read in various places since the weekend is that Celtic would not have conceded the Silva penalty had we not been awarded one first.

This is probably accurate. When you think about it, the decision to award a penalty against them in a league game, at Ibrox, was massive, and against Goldson in particular, who gets away with this stuff with such regularity that you’d have thought there was a clause in the rules about it.

It felt like one of those decisions designed to even things out.

Which, of course, is not what the system is supposed to be for. It’s like refs blowing the full-time whistle right on the 90 minutes if a team is comfortably in front; officials are not supposed to assist in mercy killings any more than they are supposed to balance decisions off each other.

Why was the referee shown only an edited view of the incident?

You can clearly see that he was; the footage was only of the player going down, not of AJ winning the ball, which he very obviously did. It was a pathetic attempt to win a decision from Silva and it had hardly been his first of the day.

Not only did the decision seriously disenfranchise us at the start of the second half, but it rewarded one of the most blatant bits of cheating I’ve witnessed in a while.

Celtic clearly smells something fishy. Perhaps we also believe that this was more about levelling out the decisions than anything else. But there’s no “clear and obvious error” here and so I find it absurd that Beaton – who needed no excuse to give the home team decisions; he did it virtually all afternoon – was even called over to the monitor.

The news that Celtic has sought clarity on this isn’t surprising in the least.

It will make no difference whatsoever, but it keeps the pressure on. We should also be seeking some clarity on the crime-count in the match as well. If you compare our foul count across the season to that one specific game at the weekend, I think the difference would be so great that it would jump off the page. I have never seen more one-sided decision making in a game.

Complaining about these things is pretty futile.

That doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t do it.

It is important to get our frustrations on the record and to make sure that people know we’re not just sitting watching this stuff unfold … but we all know that there won’t be any justice for us, even if we force people into admitting they got this decision wrong.

The only way we’re going to put a stop to this stuff is when we have genuine SFA reforms. Those will do more good than any complaint we could ever make, either in public or in private.

The club has to get serious on that subject if we aren’t already.

Just who is in charge of showing the play back to the likes of Beaton then…

Because if it’s Sevco TV then that’s a pure scandal (surely it cannot be them) –

If it’s Sky Sports Scotland then we all know they’re biases are all sewn up in the direction of one team as well…

If it’s BBC Scotland then – Goodnight Vienna with that one –

The answer must be out there somewhere – and I for one would like to know for sure !

  • FSTB says:

It was 20 mins and 11 seconds before we got our 1st free kick , sevco had been awarded 9 by then .
In total we had 3 free kicks to sevco’s 15 in the first 45 mins of the game .
They must be the best tacklers in world football

  • JimBhoy says:

From what I understand of the rules it did not fit any of the criteria for a pen.

It was given basically on the view of contact is made (in a contact sport).

Silva was a disgrace all afternoon and this should have been taken into consideration also with persistent diving, Rangers fans must have been thoroughly embarrassed. Cantwell must have been mightily disgruntled that another Rangers player beat him to the play-acting award.

Cannot wait to hear the SFA reply. It being an official Celtic complaint surely there has to be a meeting or comms to clear up the issue. If the SFA admit to such a potentially multi-million £’s mistake, Celtic should take that farther or at the very least keep the pressure on for ref impartiality and a clear out.

A mistake made by a known Rangers supporting referee and a VAR man who serves at their school academy, couldn’t write this stuff.

Lap of honour at the end shows that they are Sh1t scared of Celtic. Their long ball tactic is poor to watch, Celtic’s midfield without their best player in there were out of sight until the honest cheating mistakes started.

Celtic played with no fans and some intimidation and violence with beaton giving every free kick where a rangers player went down. I would have put money on a second half with a Celtic Red card.

Regardless of their ‘moral’ victory FFS I am more assured now we can take the league and cup. Celtic’s board and lawyer power may just help flatten that playing surface.

Will it change the result, No , they may do what they normally do (honest mistake route) sorry the Ref had reviewed the video and said he got this one wrong. The matter has been dealt with internally. Easy exit no other comments needed ,we have already answered that no further comments required. When has a mistake removed a Goal in the past after the Game has finished same as points never removed despite any admission.

  • Arthur Jennings says:

Also if you continue to watch as soon as Mr Beaton gives his get out of jail card to the rangers, a celtic player not sure who makes a comment to Beaton, who quite clearly venomously, and in no uncertain terms spews out the SHUT UP command to said celtic player. He really has a hatred for all things Celtic, I believe that celtic should demand that from now until the season ends, beaton should play no further part in any of celtic’s remaining fixtures especially the next Glasgow derby, I honestly believe that said Amateur individual could be responsible in causing violent scenes.

  • Cyril Donohoe says:

“Oh what a tangled web we wieve when first we pracrise to deceive ” Everything you have stated is true, also the head injury to Yang hardly gets a mention , iif var was used properley in relation to AJ incident it would have been no peno, n to turn it on its head their disallowed goal would have stood.I agree it was disappointing to leave with only a pt, but if you analyse what the Celtic players had to put up with its truly remarkable that we lleft with a pt

  • Cyril Donohoe says:

Sorry if no var their disallowed goal would have stood

    • Michael McCartney says:

Cyril that’s not the point VAR wa used correctly on the disallowed goal as it was a clear and obvious error by the referee, there is no doubt a foul had been committed. As far as the penalty is concerned there was no clear and obvious error by the referee, and VAR either missed the touch of the ball by Johnston or chose to ignore it. If Beaton was not shown the touch by Johnston on the screen then that was a failure on the part of the VAR officials.
Either way it is not the system to blame it is the officials not using it properly, The supporters both in the ground and watching on TV should be able to hear the communication going on around VAR decisions as they do in Rugby.

    • Celtic bhoy says:

If they had no VAR think of the penalties they would have missed out on

  • Effarr says:

I wouldn`t be surprised if Beaton gave Silva the yellow knowing, ie., by a previous “agreement”,
that Walsh would invite him to check the VAR and allow the card to be rescinded. As my mother, God rest her, used to say about them, “they are up to all tricks”.

  • Adoo Fellaffadyke says:

When you say The Club has to get serious on this matter you mean Lawwell has to get serious on this matter – we both know that will NEVER happen.

  • Tony B says:

I agree with all that you say, but regarding SFA reforms, how is this to be achieved by Celtic?

The SFA won’t reform itself so how to force the matter?

  • stewart morgan says:

Club has sat on their hands and watched this blatant cheating for years so don’t hold out much hope there, only way this stops is if supporters of every other club in Scotland let their feelings known on the subject and that the whole league is aware that 1 team is being refereed to a different standard to the rest.

  • James Forrest says:

Give the Five Way Agreement stuff a fucking rest will you? Every post you bang on about it.

Let me tell you, if you think we’re going to leave £50 million on the table, meekly, willingly, if we are cheated out of this title you are mad. The FWA has damn all to do with any of this.

I do love the suggestion that the way to get stronger is to get weaker. That’s going to win you a lot of support …

  • Fun time frankie says:

Sorry James theFWA is real and lawell is the biggest liar ever to work FOR celtic. I wouldn’t trust this piece of garbage to look after 10p for me.

    • Jas says:

Let’s not forget the missiles thrown from a wholly Sevco gathering!!!!
When they say Police Scotland is investigating, that’s code for all is OK for Sevco

  • Jack says:

I would like to think Silva’s swan dive was the moment the double was confirmed as going to Paradise this season. If our players are Celtic class, this will already be assured.

  • Hugh says:

So, they sat that there was contact therefore a penalty, Simunovic made contact with Kenny Miller after making contact with the ball and put him six feet up in the air, the challenge was deemed within the laws of the game. They make it up as they go.

  • Mr Smith says:

Celtic shouldn’t be complaining about it, they should be taking it to court !!!!

  • Jim Duffy says:

What steps can we take James if we are cheated out of this title, can Celtic actually do anything,if so it will be too little too late because if sevco get the CL bounty they will spend it and leave us in their wake.

    • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

      They will indeed Jim…

Unfortunately we are ran by utter and gutter cowards –

Any other board in Celtic’s position would do something…

These yellow, yellow bar stewards in grey suits… Na da, Na da, I’m afraid !

      • Gerry Henderson says:

If Silvas dive was deemed to be a bookable offence at the non penalty why wasnt he booked before that when he “conned” Beaton at least twice before that

        • James Forrest says:

He should have been. If he had he wouldn’t have been able to dive for the penalty.

  • Jim M says:

Well cheatin beaton shouldn’t get the next Derby game at parkhead due to 3 blatant mistakes and the others, back 2 reffin in championship, NO CHANCE , he’ll definitely be used somewhere as he’s proven he’s pro sevco, they need the CL money or they’re down the swanny again,

Lawwell needs the “old firm ” to exist by any means.

  • Stephen Mcnally says:

I said to my son before it kicked off every 50/50 will result in a foul to them
