Yesterday, the celebrations outside Celtic Park were quite incredible. There were many thousands of fans who gathered to welcome the team back to the ground. These scenes have been shown around the world. They show our club is truly special.

So of course, today The Daily Record and its dire sister publications would want to focus at least some of their attention on the shocking arrests statistics. Which were … err … not really that shocking.

Two people were arrested for breach of the peace.

One man and one woman.

For all we know they were a couple having a particularly heated argument.

You can see that on any street in this city, on any night of the week.

It doesn’t usually merit press attention.

You would think that this city was a Crime Free Zone last night other than this; it’s the only explanation for the coverage they’ve given it.

Actually, I rather suspect that it wasn’t. There are plenty of real criminals who must have been wondering what the papers would say about them today and who are quite relieved that others were caught behaving badly.

Honest to God, this stuff pisses you right off.

The same newspaper defended the Ibrox fans after they rioted at a European final.

Then again when they did the same at a Scottish Cup Final.

They banged the drum on their behalf even as they found running battles with police in this very city to “celebrate” their single title win.

But we get headlines cause of two arrests? Unbelievable.

A much bigger story got modest coverage yesterday; the treatment our fans got at Tynecastle, where the local police and the stewarding operation degenerated to the point of dangerous farce.

The utter stupidity of their system yesterday flared briefly on the media radar – because Celtic fans filled social media with condemnation of it – and it’s been allowed to die.

I very much doubt that the club will let it die. I would imagine they will be demanding answers, and I think many people would be interested in what responses they get.

The Record could have followed up on that.

Instead that rag and its ancillary publications wants to talk about this. What a joke.

Lazy reporting ! What about wee Jonny Sutherland on Sportscene describing the Hearts player being sent off against Celtic? He said that Daizen Maeda ,’was involved ‘ in the red card ,rather than Maeda being tripped by Cochrane through on goal ! He was describing it like there was this huge conspiracy to send the Hearts man off …. Disgraceful rendition of the truth by the BBC in Scotland . And he was sober in front of the cameras this time … Arf !

Wee Bug Eyes once read out a text message on Sportscene calling the then Celtic player McGeady, Aidan McTraitor.

He didn’t send it but he read it out on television with no condemnation of the sentiment which was blatantly anti Irish racism.

No further comment needed. This is what we’re up against.

The old Rangers magic, Celtic tragic agenda is still their MO.
Fortunately increasingly few of our fans buy their rag.
    Champions again olé!

  • JimBhoy says:

The 2 arrested might not have been Celtic fans.

    Big deal either way.

  • JimBhoy says:

Looks like Morelos is away. I wonder if he will pull on his XXL rangers top again.

  • John L says:

Shit stirring fuckers. And when those idiots from across the city wrecked our city centre, not enough was written about that and we had the police standing watching this, but that’s what happens when you have rangers fans in uniform. As I’ve always said they are better fucking loosers than they are winners as they are more used to that ?

  • JIMH says:

Was at Tyncastle yesterday and you are spot on in describing crowd control as a dangerous farce. Youngsters and a lot of elderly fans caught up in it. Sadly, I don’t think the club will demand answers. Not the first time it has happened and won’t be the last due to our Board’s unwillingness to speak out on behalf of the fan base. They will just let it die.

  • Kevan McKeown says:

It’s an utter non story. An attempt at tryin tae somehow lump us in wi that mob wreckin George Square. It’s all they have, tae try and put some sort of negativity on our season. Just shows how fkn pathetic and desperate they get.

It is why no intelligent person ever reads the DR.
It is a comic for those who didn’t pay attention at school.

James, that rag cut it’s own throat with “thugs and thieves” headline, 20 odd years ago. HH
